Re: Rey heading to Seirie

Post by Modrageball »

Aeromage wrote: Rey exits the portal and steps into a vision of palatial splendour- a vast marble hall filled with ornately carved jade columns, soaring vaulted ceilings and archways covered in beautiful designs, walls covered in extravagant reliefs in semiprecious stones depicting historical scenes, and a series of huge windows flooding the area with misty light.
The portal appears to be a shimmering slab of marble surrounded by a gate, supported by a group of winged humanoid statues.

In the middle of this grand display stands a series of marble desks, seemingly carved straight out of the marble of the hall with no obvious joins, and forming a sort of barrier. Three of the desks are occupied by figures in ornate robes, flanked by a pair of guards in emerald-coloured armour each. At the far side of the hall, small groups of figures in grey or red-and-white robes congregate, turning to face the newcomer as he arrives.

Important question: Is Rey arriving in the Corona-Voyager, or just having it in tow?

kitsune106 wrote: it will be in tow, for now.

He will pause for a moment to take it all in before heading to the rigth desk, curious what's going on here.

Aeromage wrote: The right-hand desk is occupied by an older gentleman with a pair of spectacles, who is studying the odd craft behind Rey with great curiosity.
"...fascinating. Good afternoon to you, traveler from Nexus, and welcome to Seirei, and the lands of the Great House Clavis. If I might have a moment of your time, I will see to your papers and documents to help ensure your stay will be as pleasant and free from undue hassle as possible."

kitsune106 wrote: Rey hmmms at this and turns and nods. "Oh, the voyager. Figured i should have a craft along. I haven't had time to get a tank that i feel rigth in yet, so this will do. And hmmm, sure. That will be helpful. Anything you can tell me about where i migth be able to do some shopping, maybe find some intersting things or vessels?"

Aeromage wrote: "It's certainly an unusual vessel indeed. Airships are a rather new innovation in these parts, and mostly owned by the Houses, the extremely well-off, or successful merchants."
The gentleman adjusts his spectacles.
"As for shopping, the closest likely centres for such would be the province's capital city of Clavia, or our main port of Marefore, although the latter is still recovering from the recent Seed Rains. Marefore would be your most likely destination for vessels and items from overseas, however. I'll see to it that you are provided a map of the province to assist you."

The clerk pulls a shiny key from the sleeve of his robes, which glows softly. A ghostly hand fades into view holding a quill pen, drifting to a stack of papers on the desk and rapidly filling the top page with neat, cursive script.
"Now, the standard boilerplate, if you will. The papers I'm having drawn up include information on our laws and about the August Order of Spirit Tamers, who uphold order and protect the people of this world- please be sure not to interfere with their duties and to treat them with the greatest of respect. They do vital work, especially during times like these. Just behave like a decent sort and I'm sure you'll encounter no trouble as you take in the sights. From law-related sources, in any case, although, given the recent Seed Rains and the veritable explosion of new and unusual plantlife they brought with them, I would advise caution when traversing the countryside. The roads and towns will be clear of any dangerous plants by now, however."

The hand sweeps a pile of completed papers to the centre of the desk, and begins work on another sheet. The gentleman gives it a brief glance before turning his attention to the stack. "Rey Naboshi? I see. I sincerely hope your visit is a safe and pleasant one." The papers are stamped with an official-looking seal and pushed towards Rey.

*Rey's Papers from the Seirei Portal- (Bound Accessory, Quest Item, Light & Darkness, 1,000 Gold) +1 SPI
Map of the Clavia Province- (Item, Antiquity, Earth & Light & Darkness, 700 Gold)

kitsune106 wrote: Rey hmmmms. “Then Maereford it is. IF I use my vessel, can I assume that I will be not bothered by the locals? I do not wish to cause fear if I can avoid it.” He admits as he takes the papers and starts to look through them then the map. As a mercenary, he will take the time to read the documents. Any traps or things he should be aware of that weren’t in the boilerplate?

Aeromage wrote: "I would recommend not flying over or into settled areas with your vessel. While airships are known, you may end up causing rather a stir due to its unusual design, or, indeed, interfering with ongoing works."
The clerk goes back to reading the papers on his desk, pulling another sheet from the stack and beginning work on another document.

Rey reads the documents! He is, however, not a lawyer. As far as he can tell, the papers say exactly what the gentleman told him.
The papers identify him as a visitor from beyond the 'gateway' owned by House Clavis. It runs down a few laws that would be expected of an ordinary civilisation, with additional laws against 'consorting with spirits without holding a position of due authority', 'trafficking of unregulated antiques or spiritual treasures', 'interference with the duties of the Order', and 'possession or use of effects or accoutrements of the Houses of the Order without permission' among a list of other Order-related laws including statements that impersonation of, violence against, or conspiracy to cause harm or damage to members or factions of the various Houses or their reputations are also unlawful.
The papers also warn travelers against the dangers of spirits and the spirit world, and provide a detailed description of the Order's mode of dress and their duties (presented in glowing terms) to 'better inform the visitor of the Order's great and vital responsibilities that they might be able to continue to work undisturbed'.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey makes a mental note next time he's in nexus to see about learnign about law codes. He'll nod and with teh voyager in tow will head out. He will getinto the voyager and take her up and into the air , above the cloud cover. He'll next check the map, to see where a good palce, like a forets, to place hte voyager is near MArefore. Once that's done, onward!

Aeromage wrote: Rey is fortunate in that the elaborate architecture of the halls is built on a sufficient scale to allow the Corona-Voyager through, hopping into it upon reaching a wide, manicured courtyard and taking off! Today seems to be a little overcast. How high above the clouds is he planning on going?

kitsune106 wrote: He's planning on going over the cloud over. Up and above the clouds! This way won't spook people below!

Aeromage wrote: Rey takes off! The countryside spreads out around him as he leaves the walls of the courtyard behind, spreading out as a varicoloured patchwork quilt of wildflower meadows and rippling grassland. Back to the south and west, the carved white-stone splendour of the portal complex rests amidst the colourful meadows. Hills covered in patches of forest, some with unusual colours and forms, rise up to the west, mists and uneven terrain obscuring the horizon, the white ribbon of the main road vanishing between crests. The east, on the other hand, contains flatter terrain, the patches of vivid hues giving way to fallow greens and the corrugated brown of ploughed fields further out, crisscrossed by dirt roads, with the occasional patch of varying greenery or wild colour crossing fields' boundaries. The north remains open to the sky, the grassland areas growing larger and eventually merging into wide, plains of undulating greenery, dotted by trees of varying size and small woodlands. A small hill sits alone in the middle of one of the larger distant grassland patches, crowned by an impressive ring of trees.

Still further up Rey goes, the ship rocking slightly as it gets buffeted about in the clouds, before emerging into bright blue skies above. A massive green moon fills the sky almost directly overhead, its surface a rippling, shifting cover of verdant green. A smaller moon, scarred and brown, hangs in the sky at a lower pitch. Wispy clouds dot the air above, and parts of the sky occasionally shimmer with a faint golden mist.

Rey consults his map. It seems there is indeed an Aldebright Forest off the northern outskirts of Marefore, the River Pell passing through some of it. There's also a few isolated fields and patches of farmland around, although the concentration of farmbuildings increases as they get closer to the port.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey hmmms. He so gets the urge to visit the moons, but that might not be the best idea, not yet. He decides that the forest it is. Best not to put it in a field where someone could find it. No need to start the rumor of alien invasions, yet. He starts to head towards thealdebright Forest. He is looking for a place to set the ship down that won’t be too obivious to spot.

Aeromage wrote: Rey turns the Corona-Voyager on the spot and makes a direct line for the forest, clouds scudding beneath him as he travels. The clouds darken and thicken below as the ship continues its way towards Marefore, occasional flashes of light showing that a thunderstorm is brewing over the coast.

Rey begins to take the ship down, but his descent is abruptly halted by the clouds billowing upwards to meet him, forming themselves into the shape of a storm-grey bull larger than the ship itself, horns and eyes made of pure blue-white lightning. The thing lets out a half-bellow half-thunderclap that rattles the ship's instruments.

kitsune106 wrote: REy curses. He fires off a volley of blinding missiles, trying to distract it. While tis distracted, he setso n teh autopilot and tries to open the hatch to use:

a camera!

Blinding Missile- 10,000 Damage, 90% inflicts Imparied: Blind, Light & Technology, 11,000 MP

Spirit-Sealing Camera- (Weaponx2, Deadly Item, Light & Magic, 1,114,000 Gold) +2,550 Ranged Attack, +2,110 Magical Attack, +1,570 SPI, Possessor's Ranged Attacks use Spirit as their prime attribute, 15% inflicts Blind, Deals 110 SPI damage on hit, Ignores 'Fully Disembodied', Deals 1.3 times normal damage to Undead and Spirits, to a max of 1,000,000 additional damage as a non-stacking effect, wielder gains 40% Critical against Undead and Spirits

Aeromage wrote: The Corona-Voyager unleashes a barrage of blinding missiles, which blow towards the bull's face and burst into a brilliant blaze of ballistic blasts! The bull's eyes crackle and blink, the thing shaking its head furiously.

Rey opens a hatch, the bitter igh-altitude winds nearly blowing him out of the ship. He levels a camera at the thing and... takes a photo! The bull roars, although whether it's due to rage at being blinded, or pain from the missiles or the spirit-attacking camera, Rey isn't quite sure.

The cloud-thing's horns crackle and buzz, a searing bolt of lightning arcing towards the ship's general vicinity! The autopilot apparently has some sort of evasive capacity, and the thing drops several metres out of the path of the attack. Rey, however, is somewhat dislodged from his position and is left hanging precariously one-handed off the hatch, legs dangling over a sheer drop into the thundering clouds below.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey has to eep. No the best plan. He attempts to get back into the ship, trying to not drop. That would be bad. he most likely though is feeling hsi stength weakning. He'll attempt touse his connection to the phnoeix to grow pheonix wings if he does drop, trying ot get baqck into the ship quickly.

Aeromage wrote: Rey manages to clamber back into the ship, although it's a close thing indeed and leaves him unable to perform any actions this round.

The ship is rocked by a roll of thunder that impacts with the force of a freight train, taking moderate damage as the blinded cloudbull opts for a more wide-ranging blast of palpable sound.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey curses and hurries into the controls again and fires off hte missiles again, trying to hurt hte bull again. the ship does not have many offensive options, unfortunately.

Aeromage wrote: Lightning crackles and thunder roars as the piercingly-bright horns dance with electricity once again, sending a bolt streaking at the ship. Although it only deals a glancing blow, Rey's instruments flash warnings letting him know it's dealt moderate damage to the ship again.

Another volley of blinding missiles are fired off, streaking into the clouds and cloud-bull and detonating with a series of dull thuds that are immediately drowned out by the responding rolls of thunder. Rey can't really tell whether that actually did anything or not.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey has to curse at this. He open fire with teh voyager canons as he dives for the ground, going down as fast as he can, using hte canons to clear the path.

Voyager Cannons- 6,000 Damage, 1 additional hit against 1, Technology & Physical, 0 MP

Aeromage wrote: The bull unleashes a spiderweb of lightning, arcing and crackling bolts spreading out in all directions. The Corona-Voyager is hit for moderate damage again as Rey pushes it into a dive. The cannons blast downwards, doing little to clear the clouds as the ship plunges into the dark, roiling mass.

The ship shakes furiously as lightning from the inside of the cloudbank batters the intruding craft, dealing it further damage. The panels in front of Rey light up, informing him that the ship is presently down to half its HP capacity.

Rey plunges out from the clouds and into a torrential downpour of rain, lightning flashing through the clouds and providing brief moments of illumination. The Voyager is presently heading straight down into a patch of hilly farmland that he estimates is probably somewhere to the northwest of Marefore. He can't tell due to the appalling visibility.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey attemopts to land the ship quickly and shafwly behind a hill, firing the missiles behind the shio to distract the beast.

Aeromage wrote: The bull-thing doesn't seem to have followed Rey down. At least, not as far as he can tell. Is he still firing missiles into the clouds?

kitsune106 wrote: He is not firing.

Aeromage wrote: Rey manages to pull out of the dive, skimming over hedgerows and treetops and pulling around a hill, setting the ship down in a reasonably-empty field of grass and low shrubs beyond. The surrounding area seems to be mostly just more farmland.

The rain continues to fall in torrents, unabated.

kitsune106 wrote: He sighs and will start heading for maerford in the rain. he does not like the rain too much now, not with the phoenix in hm now.

Aeromage wrote: Rey closes his ship up behind him and begins a slow, steady slog through lashing rain and thick mud, squelching his way through empty fields and patches of grassland. The hilly terrain and awful weather aren't doing him any favours with regards to figuring out exactly where on the map he is, other than a general guess of 'between the Gate Complex and Marefore'. A few buildings dot the landscape, a barn here, a farmhouse there.
Some of the fields contain odd plants that don't look like crops. Some of them look to be dead, others still reasonably healthy but taking a battering in the rain, with one or two still holding onto some sort of flower or berry.

kitsune106 wrote: He will go check out the odd plants. maybe he can recscue some berries. does he see anything thatt might let him build a rain shelter?

Aeromage wrote: Rey finds a bush with some almost-clear, watery-looking berries growing on it that don't seem to have been rendered a soggy mush by the rain. He also locates a plant with very large, broad leaves that could theoretically be used as a sort of umbrella or rainhat in a pinch.

He gets:
15 Pale Rosquaberry (Consumable, Food, 1 Charge, Water, 1,000 Gold) Target's next action gains the element Water
Very Large Leaf That Can Kinda-Sorta Be Used As An Umbrella (Accessory, Trinket, Earth & Water, 300 Gold) +3 Defense, 5% Water Resistance, 20% provides no Water Resistance at the start of the round, this item may instead count as possessing the subtype 'Hat'.

kitsune106 wrote: He curses his lack of equipment for now and continues onward to MAreford.

Aeromage wrote: Rey continues walking through field after field in the pouring rain for two hours. He's fortunate to find a small boundary road between farms, which in turn leads to a slightly larger road, which in turn leads to a road that is, for the most part, paved. It looks like goes in vaguely the right direction, towards and through a village nestled between two hills.

kitsune106 wrote: He follows the road! onwards.

Aeromage wrote: Rey heads along the road and into the village. It's not especially large, mostly composed of houses made of a semi-uniform light brown stone, with darker cornerstones and dark-tiled rooftops. The village itself is surrounded by a shoulder-high wall, a thick rope hung from metal loops hammered into it garlanding the entire boundary, save for the entrances to the settlement, which are taller gateways the rope loops up and over.

None of the villager's occupants are presently out and about, although given the heavy rain still lashing down over the area, that's hardly surprising. Warm lights glow from several windows.

The village looks to have two other main gates, one leading vaguely off in the direction Rey was heading, the other off to his right.

The rain shows no signs of stopping and, in fact, seems to be getting heavier. Ditches dug on either side of the road that would otherwise be acting as drainage are overflowing, likely due to the mass of plantlife growing in them, or due to huge piles of dead leaves and plant matter. Either nobody's been maintaining the roads for a while, or there was some sort of massive explosion in the local weed population sometime in the recent past.

The inevitable result of this becomes rather apparent over the crest of the next hill, where it appears that the road has flooded where it hits the bottom of a valley between hills, forming a small, muddy lake of indeterminate depth. This extends a way into the fields on either side, which are currently populated by rather miserable-looking cattle.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey sighs. he attempts to adjust hte forcefield to repel the water and tries to ford it! onward?

Aeromage wrote: Rey attempts to tweak the work of the great Axim the Eternal in order to make it less water-permeable.
The forcefield is from a level 65-tier enemy, albeit a prototype drone of a prototype. Still, it is a work of an incomparable artisan.
Rey only has the most basic of Artificer and Smithing knowledge, only an Apprentice grasp of Engineering, and little in the way of Scientific knowledge. He has no Technology abilities, no Auramancer abilities, and no tools with which to work on the forcefield.

Rey does not manage to adjust the force field. However, his study of it in an attempt to figure out how to do so hits him with a surge of inspiration, such that he thinks he might be able to work with force fields of a considerably-lesser level in his capacity as an Engineer.

Rey gets:

Force Field Designer- (Passive Ability, Engineer) All Auras equipped by possessor whose name includes 'Force Field' gain +200 Defense

Rey steps into the water in an attempt to ford it. The water is, for the most part, repelled, although the prototype Aura's less-than-perfect repulsion causes it to begin flooding in, pooling around his feet in the bubble-field. Almost immediately, Rey loses the ability to see anything that isn't inside the boundary of the forcefield, the water being a complete muddy mess from the run-off of the surrounding fields. The road seems to go down rather deeper than he expected, too.

Five minutes later, Rey finally emerges from the other side, now inside a bubble filled with cold, muddy water up to his chest. The liquid begins to leak out from the forcefield slowly.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey takes the chacne to drop the forcefield for now, his body heating up as he works to channel his firey heart through his body, to remove the water and dry himself off!

Basic Elemental Magic Attunement- (Passive Ability, Elementalist) All Elemental Magic spells gain +10 Magical Attack and cost 10 less MP
Envoy of Fire- (Ability, Elementalist) Character's spells, abilities, and items respond as though character had already cast Call Unto
Hand of Flame- (Passive Ability, Elementalist) +20 Magical Attack and +1% Critical for each Fire element Elemental Magic spell equipped to a max of 10 spells, possessor's melee attacks may, if at least one weapon slot is open, have a 1% chance of inflicting Burning
Heart of Fire- (Passive Ability, Elementalist) +10 Magical Attack for Fire element Elemental Magic, 5% Fire Resistance
Knowledge of Esoteric Elements- (Passive Ability, Elementalist) Possessor gains +100 MIN if possessor has any item equipped that is a nonbase element
Basic Command of Fire- (Passive Ability, Blazing Sultan) Possessor's Fire element pets and summons gain +50 to all stats
Basic Fire Synchronization- (Passive Ability, Blazing Sultan) Possessor gains +25 to all stats if Fire element
Basic Understanding of the Heart of Fire- (Passive Ability, Blazing Sultan) Possessor's Fire element allies gain +10 to all stats

While he succeeds in making himself feel warm, his attempts at self-drying are rather mitigated by the sheer volume of water presently falling on him from the sky.

He sighs and contineus his trugging onwards. He is getting increasingly frustrated and upset, hoping that maereford's inn will be open.

Aeromage wrote: Rey trudges on along the road through field and farm. After about an hour the rain begins to let up, lessening to a miserable, constant drizzle instead of the torrential downpour previously experienced.
The somewhat-haphazardly-paved road he's on joins a larger road, this one paved with sandy-brown stone, its surface smooth and unbroken, water running off it into the considerably-better-maintained ditches along its sides. The hills get smaller as Rey continues walking, the road becoming more even and assuming a gentle downward angle.

The road abruptly veers off to the left as Rey reaches sturdy fence blocking a steep drop, revealing a wide, grey expanse of ocean to his right, overcast with clouds and further rain. Before him a pleasant-looking seaside port town spreads, built on a gentle incline to the shore, the majority of its buildings made of white stone with green or red-tiled rooftops. The place generally follows a tier-structure, with sloping roads and plentiful squares overlooking the lower levels of the town. A large series of docks fills the shoreline, most of it populated with a variety of boats and ships, big and small, a riot of colourful tents and awnings filling the lower streets nearby. The far end of town seems to be made of rather less well-kept buildings, some little more than collections of shacks built on the hillsides above town, the view from Rey's position mostly obscured by taller buildings.
Off the western coast of the town, a tall and somewhat dilapidated-looking lighthouse stands on a small plateau, its lower levels partially overgrown with greenery.

More immediately attention-grabbing is the huge mass of trees erupting from the ocean and completely blocking access to the town's docks and harbours. The things are considerably massive, somewhat tendril-like and oddly bald-looking save for some branches around the lower- and mid-sections erupting with clouds of greenery. Some boats are clustered around by their bases.

A small, spherical green object in the grass by the fence catches Rey's eye.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey curses his lack of good weapons at the moment. He does head over to the object to pick it up and examine it. hopefully it will be useful!

Aeromage wrote: Rey picks it up. It's a vaguely-glowing, solid sphere of some sort of dim greenish light.

kitsune106 wrote: he hmmms and puts it away for now, although it is nice. He starts to head on into the town, or tries to, looking for a tavern to warm up in and listen to stories in.

Aeromage wrote: The trip down towards the port town is rather uneventful. The town's gates are heavily guarded, but the green-armoured spearmen standing watch let Rey through, his bedraggled and muddy appearance only prompting raised eyebrows.

Once inside, the town fairly bustles with activity, despite the poor weather. Nobody seems interested in leaving the town, notably, with a few more travelers walking (or riding) in behind Rey.

There's a selection of shops, stables and coach-houses just inside the entrance, with a couple of tavern-type affairs a little way in. The roads leading towards the docks look to be fairly full of shops and other eateries, too, with one particularly large one notably taking up an entire corner of a crossroads, a weather-vane shaped like a winged fish lazily spinning in the errant breezes. Further down, the road begins to be sheltered by colourful awnings and hangings, a variety of stalls lining the street down there and suggesting a considerably large covered market at play.

Towards the northern middle of the town is a large, green-roofed estate that towers over most of the surrounding structures, walled off from the general public, its grounds shielded from easy view by a barrier of tall cherry trees. Another estate-like complex, rather smaller and with blue-tiled rooftops, stands closer to the northern outskirts of town.
Larger buildings, some of which look to have quite impressive architecture that Rey can't easily make out from his current position sprout from the seafront by the docks.

kitsune106 wrote: First... going to go shopping for some rainy weather gear, then finding a place to get warm!

Aeromage wrote: Not wanting to stick around in the rain much longer, he picks the first shop that has a stand of umbrellas and raincoats on display and dives in.

Said shop seems to have rather put its prices up. 1,000 Gold later, Rey has a:

Raincoat- (Armor, Clothing, Water, 500 Gold) +3 Defense, +2 Defense Against Water, +5% Water Resistance

As for places to get warm, there's a couple of nearby taven-like places (The Crossed Keys and The Undine's Head, respectively) that look relatively cheap, with the bigger and nicer establishments (such as that larger restaurant) looking like they're further into town.

kitsune106 wrote: rey wants contacts, so that means seedy places. the nicer places might not be as open. Rey is a mefrcenary, so he knows people like to talk. He will go to the Undine's head for a drink adn keep his eyes and ears open. If he spots someone who migth be loose in teh tongue and willing to talk for drink, he'll ply for info.

Aeromage wrote: Rey enters the Undine's Head. The place is a smoke-filled, low-ceilinged tavern with pillars holding up the floor above, providing more space for the mishmash of tables and chairs that fill the floor. The bar takes up most of one end of the establishment, presided over by a wiry, scarred man and a dumpy-looking older woman in an apron, both busily doing things with glasses.
The place is fairly packed, too, with a variety of individuals in different styles of dress occupying various benches, chairs and tables. Some of them look to be travelers, large packs and bags stood on the floor by them or under their tables. Others seem more like locals of the less-well-off variety, a few obvious farmers and fishermen among their number.

The cliché isn't true, or at least not in this instance. Rey's arrival doesn't herald any sudden silence or unanimous swiveling of heads and suspicious glares. His unusual, glowing bracers do attract some attention but, by and large, the place remains noisy. Quite a lot of the patrons seem to be loudly complaining about the weather and various problems with the town, chiefly the inability for any ships to get in and out of the port. Several are lamenting curfews. A group of farmers are apparently trying to outdo one another with how poorly their harvests are or what they're supposed to be doing with the 'weird plants' that have apparently overtaken their fields. One large, bearded man who is clearly several drinks beyond coherent is accosting anyone foolish enough to wander near him about how difficult it is to get decent wood nowadays and the loss of his colleagues.

kitsune106 wrote: He hmmms and will head over to the large baearded man, and try to steer teh talk to about the wood issue.

Aeromage wrote: Rey doesn't exactly need to steer to talk about the wood issue. That particular carriage has already lost control and is careening down the hillside of wood issues, soon to plunge spectacularly over the edge of Drunken Ranting, all whistling through winds so filled with alcohol fumes it could render a sober man unconscious.

"YER UNNERSTAN', DON'TCHER," the man opens with, grabbing Rey by the shoulders and shaking him hard enough to make his teeth rattle. "YER CAN' BE A WOODCUTTERERERER IF YER CAN' CUT WOOD, CANYER?! AN' IFYER TRY T'CUT WOOD, YER END UP MISSIN' IN THE FOREST OR GETTIN' WOOD WHAT DOESN' HAVE ANY WOOD IN'T, OR WOOD WHAT ISN' CUTTIN' RIGHT, AN' EVEN IF YER DO, BAM!" The man slams a fist into his table, splintering the wood slightly. "TH' TREES'R GROWIN' UP OUTTA THE WATERERERER AN' STOP PEOPLE WANTIN' T'GET THEIR BOATS FIXED BECAUSE THEY CAN' EVEN LEAVE! IT'S TH' TREEEEEEEEES! THEY DON' WANNA BE CUT! 'S THE TREEEEES"

The man resumes rattling Rey back and forth with enough force to make him feel like his teeth have come loose.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey is going to try to get info on how the trees defend themselves. he figures a few blasts from th voygers missiles should do it.

Aeromage wrote: "DIDN' YER HEAR ME, BOY? THEY'RE GROWIN' EVERYWHERE!" The exchange is, by now, drawing quite some attention by virtue of being louder than the nearby conversations by quite some decibels.
"YER GO IN TH' FOREST, YER VANISH! YER CUT DOWN TH' TREES, THEY'RE NOT RIGHT! 'S ALL THEIR FAULT! 'S THE TREEEEEEES! THEY TOOK THEM AWAY! THEY TOOK'M ALL... ALL AWAY!"
The man is, by this point, slamming his fists on the table hard enough to make it visibly crack, tears streaming down his face.

"I think you've had enough there, friend," an annoyed-looking nearby fellow in a yellow oilcloth cape remarks, looking around his table for support.

"DON'CHER GO CALLIN' ME FRIEND, YER LI'L... LI'L... YELLELLOW SCUT-THRESHER!" The man roars in response, drawing yet more attention from the rapidly-quietening audience. "ALL'O MY FRIENDS WENT 'N VANISHED IN THA' MOONSBEGOGOGOTTEN FOREST, 'N YER THINK YER C'N CALL YERSELF MY FRIEND?!"
The logger gets to his feet. He's easily large enough that he has to hunch to stand in the low-ceilinged tavern, drunk enough that his swaying is causing him to knock against the rafters on either side of his head, and, given the way he's weilding that mug and bottle, spoiling for a fight.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey sighs. ''look, everyone calm down plrase''

Aeromage wrote: Rey sighs. Whatever remark he may have made is immediately drowned out by the yell of "SHUT UP YOU DRUNKEN IDIOTS, I'm TRYING to HAVE A MEAL HERE" from another table.
The man in the yellow cape sits back down, apparently wanting to avoid any further trouble. The logger, however, is having none of it and proceeds to whack him over the head with his mug. Or tries to. His clumsy grip on the container slips, sending it hurtling into another part of the tavern, whereupon it hits one of a group of fishermen on the back of the head.
The fisherman's companions are utterly enraged at this development, and respond by hurling bottles at the logger. One goes wide and smacks a large woman drinking a glass of wine in the face, shattering the glass and covering her in the stuff.
The woman stands in a rage, the other members of her table doing likewise. This unbalances a waitress carrying a tray of drinks, who falls over, soaking two other tables. One of the members of the first table immediately decides the large woman's party is to blame and stalks up to them, only to get pre-emptively punched out by a member of the second table who mistakenly thought he tripped the waitress on purpose. A three-way brawl develops between the tables, which rapidly escalates to cover the surrounding tables as well.

Meanwhile, the logger drunkenly charges his way towards the party of fishermen, barging the yellow-caped man and his friends and, indeed, the entire table, out of the way, causing further upset in his wake.
The party of fishermen scatter, save for the fisherman who was hit in the first place who turns just in time to see the enraged, drunken woodsman bearing down on him. With a yelp, he throws himself out of the way and into a pile of bags belonging to another table, who immediately cry "THIEF" and pull out a variety of cudgels and heavy ropes in preparation to defend themselves.

Chaos begins to reign in earnest. Someone attempts to break a bottle over Rey's head but is blocked by the suddenly-appearing forcefield.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey sighs and tries to get out of there.

edit:
After all, while he does enjoy a nice brawl, he's got information to gather.

Aeromage wrote: Rey sighs again and turns to leave.

Unfortunately, his path is blocked by, at turns, the large woman (now holding a broken wine bottle) struggling with the waitress (who is fending her off with a tray), a man in a floppy leather hat hitting everyone who approaches him with a weighty backpack, and an entire table getting flung overhead and slamming into the doorway.
A beer bottle bounces off Rey's forcefield.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey snarls at this. this is out of hand. he tries to get to the center and tries to let phoenix essence out, to try to to get peples attention and stop the brawl. he roars out, "@stop!">.

Aeromage wrote: Rey stomps towards what is probably the centre of the tavern and gives a yell. Despite having utterly no skill in channeling, binding, spiritual power-tapping or bird-related power and only the one Skykeeper ability, he manages to call forth a rush of roaring red-gold flames around him in a flashy display.

This successfully calls a halt to the brawl, for the most part. This also has the effect of drawing the attention of every single person in the building to Rey.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey nods. He does toss 1k gold as a tip to them. To him, its a standard tip for the BA as he heads out, makign sure his fire is off. He'll start to head down to the harbor.

Aeromage wrote: Rey is no longer on fire. Whatever it was that he did, it was a brief expression of fire-power that didn't last. He leaves, along with a large number of disgruntled patrons that, thankfully, don't seem to be interested in tangling with him.

The road down to the harbour is a fairly long one, lined with shops and expanding into plazas in a couple of places, with a large number of side-roads splitting off from it. The large eatery turns out to be the 'Flying Catfish Restaurant', which is rather less-than-full at present. Prominent signs on the doors apologise for the shortage of seafood given 'recent events', further explaining that the items on the menu are very much first come, first served for the time being.

Further down the road the colourful awnings and banners begin to act as a roof to the streets, the side-roads and alleys becoming more numerous, lined with stalls and tables and all manner of merchants doing their level best to sell goods to passersby. Quite a few of them seem to be somewhat desperate to make a sale.
A woman in colourful silks brandishes a scoop of reddish powder in Rey's direction. "Spices! Spices from overseas! Spices from the Seed Rains! Guaranteed exotic! Many, many flavours! Perhaps some even hold legendary powers!"
"No, no!" an elderly man in a large straw hat counters from an opposite table. "You want hats! Good hats! Locally made! Hats from Clavia an' Mornhill! Hats from th' Vire Province, home o' House Fiora!"
Rey is all but dragged aside by a large, hairy man selling trousers and undergarments.
"You! You buy trousers! I feel your arse! I know your size, eh?!" He makes an expansive gesture, eyebrows waggling.

kitsune106 wrote: (did he leave the 1k gold?)

Aeromage wrote: (If you say he did, he did.)

Rey goes weapon-hunting! He finds a gentleman down a side alley with a stall decked out with all manner of weapons and items which, the merchant assures Rey, are perfect for 'fighting off evil spirits', and at 'very reasonable prices for what they are', too.
"You must buy quickly, and buy now! Soon everyone will come to see these wares, and they will surely be gone in a blink, yes, a blink of an eye! Quality like this cannot be found so easily!"

kitsune106 wrote: Rey, does not trust the person at all. The shadiness screams out at him. He continues looking. He will come back later.

Aeromage wrote: Rey continues looking, managing to get himself rather lost in the maze of passages, alleys, stalls and variety of highly interesting and distracting sights.
He succeeds in locating a semi-permanent stall that specialises in selling weaponry, however, staffed by an older man who seems to be wearing half of his stock. The pieces here look considerably newer than the other stall's offerings.
"All pieces are guaranteed less than five years old!" the man enthuses as Rey browses his selection. "Your children and children's children will get fine use of them before they must be disposed of! Many made right here in the Clavia province, many right here in Marefore!" He waves an arm in a broad sweep that somewhat encompasses the town and his stall. "Unfortunately, due to the trade issues, our stock of pieces from abroad is heavily restricted and marked up, but well worth a look, I assure you!"

kitsune106 wrote: HE hmmms and will persue the wares. looking for ranged weapons.

Aeromage wrote: The bazaar is considerably sizable, and rather confusing to navigate. Rey manages to escape the covered market eventually, however, emerging onto a wide stone road next to a dockside, wide, long stone wharfs extending out towards what would be the open sea, if it weren't for the wall of huge trees growing a few hundred feet out and blocking the way. Several craft, ranging in size from large ships to fishing boats are moored nearby, some with bored-looking sailors standing about on or near them, others with its crew performing various acts of maintenance aboard.
Quite a lot of the buildings opposite the shore are large, several being rather impressive examples of architecture. One notably official-looking one has a large sign with a stylised chalice on it, another has a series of large towers with flat rooftops sprouting from its arched main glass-and-steel roof. Others look more like office buildings or fronts for mercantile companies.

There's a fair number of people here that Rey could ask. There's quite a few sailors and dockworkers, a few fishermen trying their luck from boats or the edges of the wharf, a few merchants with stalls who have spilled out from the covered bazaar, various townspeople, a crowd gathering around a juggler and various assorted others. Who's he wanting to ask?

There's quite a crowd around him, including sailors, merchants and general passers-by. There are also a couple of more unusual-looking individuals, like the large man with literally bark-like skin and arms as thick as tree trunks, the smaller, weaselly-featured young man with a curious sheen to his skin and purely-black eyes, and the somewhat bluish-tinted woman with what appears to be gills.
Rey can't get close to the juggler too easily due to how thick the crowd is. Is he pushing through?

kitsune106 wrote: he;ll go talk to bark man

Aeromage wrote: The bark-skinned man is really rather large indeed. He also seems to be rather distracted by watching the juggler (and, strangely, parts of the crowd). Rey manages to get his attention eventually, though, prompting him to twist around and lean down, accompanied by a series of semi-audible creaking noises, to look at him.

"Uh, hey." The man's voice is rather astoundingly deep. "Whuddya want?"

The crowd cheers as the juggler successfully adds five more knives to his routine, the blurring cascade of metal flashing in the light.

Aeromage wrote: Rey hands a bag of gold off to the rather confused-looking tree-man and plunges back into the myriad covered streets and alleyways of the bazaar!

He has little luck in finding any plant-sellers to begin with, instead getting himself lost and finding himself back at the same seller of scarves and shawls no less than three times, who seems to take his repeated appearance as a sure sign of interest and increases her enthusiasm accordingly.
Eventually, however, he turns down a tiny alleyway that somehow leads to a rather large plaza-turned-tent, huge poles erected at regular intervals around the space holding up huge sheets of colourful fabrics running to the adjacent rooftops. There's rather a variety of stalls here, including one bedecked with unusual flowers, an open-fronted shop that appears to be a more permanent horticultural store with temporary plant-stalls set in front of it with some odd plants on display, and a large greengrocer's cart manned by what is, presumably, a large greengrocer. Several other general bric-a-brac stalls seem to have a plant here or a flower there, too.

Aeromage wrote: The people here seem less keen to let Rey handle their goods, so he can't get the BA Member identification-power going.

The flowers are rather brightly-coloured, with some rather odd- and unusual-looking examples among them, an exotic mixture of fragrances filling the air around the stall. The plant-shop has some obviously unusual or unnatural plants on display in its manned stalls, including some with shining leaves, strange bulbous seedpods, writhing tendrils and pulsating buds. The grocer's cart contains, among its normal variety of apples and such, some very oddly-shaped fruits and vegetables, including some as large as footballs with intriguing patterns on them and faint, tantalising scents.

Other stalls that catch Rey's eye include a miscellaneous item stall with an oddly diverse mix of wares manned by a figure in a hood who seems to have either a poorly-tied rope belt or a tail, a well-laid-out stall attended by a woman in shrine maiden's robes selling robes, scrolls and magical-looking seals, a multi-tiered stall that apparently specialises entirely in footwear of various materials, and a young, somewhat scruffy-looking man covered in talismans with a large box, who is selling a variety of strips of paper with odd patterns on them.

Aeromage wrote: The hooded figure's stall is, as Rey first thought, pretty eclectic. Among its collection is a set of coins of varying colours in a velvet collector's case, a bottle of strange sparkling, fading-in-and-out-of-perception sand, several shards of glass, three pouches of different coloured silk, a few books, and a singularly ominous-looking card of a somehow-unidentifiable suit in a glass case. A variety of other bric-a-brac litters the stall, many of it looking like various bits and pieces of... well, stuff.

kitsune106 wrote: REy smiles at the figure. "Good day sir. I assume you're here to hawk your wares?" he asks, a smile on his lips. He's testing the figure, to see how he responds.

Aeromage wrote: The figure's hood twitches slightly. Either they gave an almost imperceptible nod, or are giving Rey a rather pointed look.

kitsune106 wrote: He smiles and leans in. "I've been around the block a few times... So lets cut to the chase, shall we?" He asks, making sure that only the figure can hear him as he winks.

kitsune106 wrote: He nods.
"I'm looking for good stuff." He whispers, then nods, waiting to see what happens.

Aeromage wrote: The merchant levels what Rey assumes is some sort of look at him, although the hood prevents him from actually seeing their face to determine what, exactly, the look in question is.
They gesture again at the stall, indicating in particular the card, coins and bottle of sand.

kitsune106 wrote: He'll go to examine the 3 items.
"How much?" he asks gruffly, as he examines them. In truth, he is liking this exchange.

Aeromage wrote: The merchant pulls a worn-looking book from a pocket and flips through it.

Rey examines the coins. There are four varieties in all- red, blue, green and white, each etched with a stylised face, each different from the others.
The merchant holds out the book to Rey. The page currently shown states 'Moonburst Coin: Garnet/Lapis/Jade/Quartz - 12,000,000 Gold (or equivalent goods or services) each, set of 4 for 44,000,000 Gold (or equivalent). Valid notes of credit from the House Aetherius Bank, Unda Trading Company or equivalent accepted.'

Rey examines the ominous-looking card. He really can't get a good read on it. The thing's design seems to keep tearing itself apart as he looks at it.
The merchant flips to another page. 'Ruin Shuffle Card - 20,000,000 Gold (or equivalent goods or services)'.

Rey looks at the bottle of sand. Looking at it jogs odd half-remembered thoughts in his mind that remain maddeningly out of reach.
The merchant holds out the book again. 'Bottle of Sand from the Distant Shore of Memories - 30,000,000 Gold (or equivalent goods or services)'.

kitsune106 wrote: He nods and points to the card, Thrn to thr bottle then to four of the coins. he'll take out the required gold and set it down, a total of 94 million. he did take 150 mil along.

Aeromage wrote: Rey manifests a huge, clinking sack of gold and dumps it next to the hooded merchant's stall. The merchant stares for a good few seconds, apparently stunned at Rey actually having such a large amount in cash, rather than promissory notes or other valuables. The shock rapidly fades as other marketgoers begin to turn to look at the suddenly-appearing sack of something and, in a blur of motion, the merchant retrieves and throws an odd, silky blanket over the bag. The thing rapidly contracts on contact, knotting itself around the gold and shrinking down to the size of a tomato, which the merchant swiftly pockets.

As more people gather to see what the fuss was about, the merchant hurridly scoops Rey's purchases into a sack, hands them off to him, pulls out another silk blanket, hurls it over their stall, grabs the suddenly-shrinking collection of goods and hares off towards the nearest alleyway at speed, tail (as indeed it is revealed to be) whipping around behind them.

Shortly afterwards, a few unsavoury-looking sorts follow in various states of nonchalance and desperation. Rey gets the feeling he may be being watched.

He does have his bag of goodies, however. Looks like the merchant swept a couple more things in there in their rush to leave.

Rey gets:

Rey finds himself in another of the colourful bazaar corridors. Now that he's a bit more aware of his surroundings, he notes that there's a lot of gaps between stalls and several empty alcoves where stalls should be. Presumably the shipping troubles are causing some vendors to stay away.

Aeromage wrote: Rey issues a smug taunt, casually leaning against the wall, coins in hand and ready to react as soon as the man makes his move.

Rey wasn't expecting the oilskin-wearer to move quite as fast as he did without responding.

Rey certainly wasn't expecting the man to throw his oilskin coat with such speed and surprising ease, blocking the mercenary's view of the alleyway.

And Rey is utterly flabbergasted at how the man somehow manages to bypass his forcefield altogether, plunging the knife into his gut and dragging the hook-point out with a spray of blood and gore.

Rey takes heavy damage.

The mercenary manages to pull himself together enough to send the pair of coins streaking towards the mugger, leaving green and red light-trails in their wake and exploding with a burst of flame and rock shards. The man is caught by the blasts, but manages to avoid getting hit full-on, instead getting his non-dominant arm somewhat torn up.

Under the oilskin, it appears the man is wearing a similarly-coloured pair of oilskin trousers, a drab brown shirt (now rather tattered on one side) and a bushy brown beard. A small selection of unpleasant-looking knives hang at his right hip.

The man takes a couple of wary steps to one side, looking for a better opening.

Aeromage wrote: While Rey indeed knows something of maths, hypertech and science, his opponent is less of a predictable set of algorithms and considerably more of a knife-weilding human being with all of the mathematical uncertainty that entails and considerably more time pressure than such complicated factors allow for him to solve.

The mugger's next knife attack comes from a completely unexpected angle, scraping off the forcefield's edge with a shower of sparks. Rey attempts to counter with another coin toss, but his opponent is rather light on his feet and manages to leap out of the dual-element detonation's way.

kitsune106 wrote: REy tries the attack agian, this time trying to im fo rth center of mass, moving to try to get away from teh small alleyway. HE relaizes he is outgunned here.

Aeromage wrote: Rey slams the green-jade coin down, hoping to bounce it directly into the man's stomach.

Unfortunately, the ground is cobblelstone, and Rey misjudges the amount of force applied by a large margin. The coin pings off the cobble, ricocheting wildly into the wall of the alley tunnel, and explodes with significant force, taking a large chunk of the wall with it. Brick dust cascades from the ceiling and large cracks fan out from the point of impact as stone and brick grate and grind against each other from the unexpected destabilisation.

Seeing his chances rapidly diminishing, the mugger hurls himself towards Rey, manages to somehow bypass the forcefield yet again, lands another heavily-damaging blow on the mercenary and grabs for the sack of goods. Rey is, however, able to react in a significantly more timely fashion this time. In the ensuing struggle, Rey is not only able to maintain his grasp on his bag, but also wrestle the knife from the man and kick him into the opposite wall and away from himself.

A large chunk of ceiling detaches at the impact and slams down onto the man's head, his oilskin hat doing little to absorb the blow and sending him half-reeling, half-running back the way he came.
Rey, now successfully free of the mugger and in possession of his weapon, dodges another piece of falling masonry as the passageway continues to crumble.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey tries to get the heck of out dodge now, the mercenary trying to avoid all the fallign debris as he makes a run for it. Hopefully Captain Hook isn't there. Aeromage wrote: Which way is he running? Back the way he came, or is Rey pushing on to the other end of the tunnel?

kitsune106 wrote: back the way he came

Aeromage wrote: Back Rey goes, successfully weathering the collapsing tunnel thanks to his forcefield (and in part due to his gymnastics training), pieces of brick and wood bouncing off the field's edges as he runs. Muffled shouting and sounds of panic can be heard from somewhere.

The mercenary bursts out of the tunnel, very nearly running into the hook-weilding fisherman, a somewhat scantily-clad woman, a man with a rather loose turban and a lady with a large collection of colourful shawls who are alternately staring at the bloodied mugger stumbling away and peering into the tunnel, presumably to find the source of the explosion.

Wasting no time, Rey initiates a double coin-flip-splosion at the hook-weilding fisherman's forehead, blasting him backwards into a wall in a green-glowing nimbus of energy. The energy dissipates as soon as it hits the stone wall, which abruptly bulges and bursts outwards to clamp around the fisherman's head and upper body. The man's legs begin kicking frantically.

There is a brief pause before the scantily-clad woman decides that she'd very much rather be somewhere else, vaulting over an empty stand and sprinting into the mazelike collection of half-abandoned stalls, from which several merchants are beginning to poke their heads. The man with the poorly-tied turban backs away, frantically rooting around in his pockets whilst stuttering something that could possibly be a prayer. The shawl-clad woman considers the situation, looks at Rey, looks at the flailing half-a-fisherman, looks at the bloodied, fleeing mugger, and promptly decides that the other woman had the right idea and begins running.

kitsune106 wrote: Unfortuntaely for turban guy, Rey is not in a forgiving mood. being attacked by a knife wielders tend to do that. another double coin flip is sent at the turban guy, going for his uper torso. if he has the time, another double coin shot goes to the fisherman, trying to take care of business, then its search time

Aeromage wrote: Rey unleashes an explosive coin-toss at the panicking turban-wearer, blowing a hole clear through his target and dropping him to the floor. A second coin-blast partially collapses the wall the fisherman is stuck in, crushing the man under the rubble and leaving only his legs visible.

Rey gets XP for a Level 3 opponent and a Level 10 opponent.

The merchants and few passersby in the half-empty trading alley rapidly vacate the area, many leaving their wares behind in the rush to leave.

This gives Rey plenty of time to search the bodies.

Rey gets:

Rey gets:

Loud Fabrics- (Item, Material, Water & Psychic, 2,000 Gold)

House Unda Strongbox (Locked, Warded)- (Item, Antiquity, Water & Light & Darkness, 30,000,000 Gold)

Having thus accessorised himself, Rey follows the sounds of fleeing townsfolk down a side alley and bursts into a square containing a large fountain, several panicking townsfolk and merchants, and several more uneasy townspeople watching the scared group to determine what might have happened.
At least until Rey bursts in, his shiny sunsuit catching the light and clashing horribly with the fabrics draped over his shoulders. It occurs to Rey that, with his present and highly futuristic outfit, he may have missed the 'exotic' mark and hurtled straight into 'alien'. Specifically, 'spacefaring alien tailor-antiquarian'.

It is then, with all eyes on him, that the vase erupts with a bellowing plume of dust and foul air.

Concerningly, Rey's gear doesn't seem to be helping.

Rey is hit with Suffocation: Miasmatic Air.

Rey kicks his way into a fairly large kitchen/dining room dominated by a large wooden table and four nicely-carved chairs. One has a pile of cushions on it. The rest of the room is rather pretty, with shelves of colourfully-patterned crockery and odd curios providing a homey feel to the place. One of the shelves, however, is presently hanging loose, its contents lying smashed on the stone floor where the flying lock mechanism hit them. The large glass-mosaic lamp hanging above the table is unlit, leaving the room fairly dim, although light is filterimg in from a door on the opposite wall, and down from a flight of wooden stairs leading from the kitchen to an upper floor.

Sounds of panic and the vase's bellowing are still very much audible from outside. The narrow street begins filling with drifting clouds of dust.

From there, it's possible to look out over a sloping vista of rooftops and the colourful awnings of the bazaar that eventually gives way to the tree-choked harbour.
The air outside is beginning to get hazy with dust clouds.

Aeromage wrote: Rey, having apparently learned from the last two doors, takes a moment to figure where exactly to apply force and neatly coinblasts the lock from the patio doors. He thinks he's getting the knack of it. So much so, in fact, that he thinks he'd be able to repeat it later.

Rey gets:

Confidence thus bouyed, Rey runs out to the dust-blown patio, boldly steps up to the railing and makes a magnificent leap directly into the wall of the opposite building as the metalwork buckles under his feet.

Rey takes moderate damage and lands in a dazed heap in another narrow, door-lined passage, this one considerably less dusty. This one takes a sharp corner down (presumably) into the bazaar area at one end, the other direction carrying on parallel to the shoreline and intersecting with a larger street.

Aeromage wrote: Rey gathers his wits before trotting off down the passage, taking the corner back into the familiar cloth-ceilinged corridors of the bazaar. It's just as mazelike as before, but Rey thinks he has his directions right as he runs from street to street, heading in a general downward direction.

Rey soon finds himself in a familiar-looking tent-like plaza, now rather busier than he left it. A crowd of people have gathered around a few individuals in emerald-green armour reminiscent of the guards he saw at the portal building.

Rey recognises one of the people talking to the guards.

Unfortunately, the lady in the collection of colourful shawls also recognises him.

Her eyes go wide as she spots Rey, frantically grabbing at one of the guards and pointing.
"Th-THERE! IT'S HIM! THAT'S THE MURDERER!"

All eyes in the plaza immediately dart to Rey.

Aeromage wrote: There's the passageway he's presently standing in which leads to another street, the archway he first entered the plaza by (which is at the far end, beyond the guards), the archway he first exited the plaza by (to his right, past some stalls and through a crowd), one behind a flower cart to his left, one past the guards and to the left, and the plant-shop (which may or may not have a back exit).

kitsune106 wrote: time for about face. He knows that surrendiering is a bad idea. He'll run back the passageway he's gone. He'll flick a coin at the passageway as he leaves, trying to block it behind him. How far away is a wall that he could potentially blast through to get back to his ship?

Aeromage wrote: Rey stumbles a little as he begins backpedalling, making for a rather awkward start to his escape. His attack, however, successfully blasts apart one of the passageway walls behind him, sending rubble hurtling into the crowded plaza and causing significant amounts of panic among the people there in addition to creating an unsafe barricade behind him.

Rey begins running away from the coastline and back towards the bend in the passageway. From what he can recall, the entrance to the town that he came through was quite a way uphill and somewhere on the left from where he presently is- the issue there being that there is likely a significant amount of town between where he presently is and where the town gate happens to be.
The passage ahead of him turns sharp right to follow a path parallel to the shoreline, later intersecting with a larger street that, presumably, runs further upwards into town. He could theoretically try blowing a hole into the buildings making up the walls to his left or in front of him, but blasting his way through in order to make a faster path could have its own difficulties.

kitsune106 wrote: he;ll continue on the path, but first he'll toss a coin at the wall to the left, trying to see how difficult it will be to just blast a hole. IF it doesnt' look easy, running down teh path it is.

The room has a door on the opposite wall, and one on the right-hand wall.

On Rey's side of the counter are a number of filing cabinets, an array of bookshelves with old-looking tomes on them, and a desk with a lamp, a stack of papers, a pen and inkpot, and a large, heavy-looking book open with a magnifying glass resting on it.

Rey attempts to open up a window and, finding it locked, tries the door. It turns out to be easily unlocked from the inside.
The street outside is fairly deserted, running roughly perpendicular to the shoreline at this section before splitting off into T-sections at both ends. Sounds of general alarm sound from somewhere behind him.

Once again Rey attempts to use his connection to the phoenix, despite having utterly no skill in channeling, binding, spiritual power-tapping or bird-related power save for the one Skykeeper ability.
Perhaps due to his previous demi-successful attempt at pulling out some of its power, he successfully manifests a flaming red-gold aura once more. He thinks he might be able to do this again.

Rey gets:
Manifest Minor Phoenix-Flame Aura- (Technique Ability, Skykeeper) Possessor may spend an action to gain a buff that may deal 15,000 Flat Fire damage at the start of each round to each individual in the same battlespace (with choices made on a per-individual-basis) and deals 10,000 Fire Damage to an individual whenever said individual conducts an offensive action against possessor, possessor must possess the abilities 'Blazing Sultan' and 'Skykeeper' or the ability 'Inhabited by the Phoenix Myselgleister' or the ability 'Bearer of the Phoenix Essence' to do so

He does not, however, gain wings.

A crash heralds the sudden arrival of an emerald-clad guardsman from the downhill section of the street who, clearly dazzled by the unexpected phoenix-fire, ends up colliding with an abandoned stall and going head-over-heels over it.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey moves swiftly, taking off again. THat wasn't a smart idea now was it.... Aeromage wrote: Rey takes off before the guard can get to his feet, dashing up the street, going uphill and to his left whenever possible according to his vague mental map of the town. From the sounds of it, another couple of guards have joined the chase behind him, but the mercenary remains a few steps ahead.

Right up until he comes hurtling out onto a main street, colliding with a fruitcart someone had thoughtlessly placed in the way and sending produce everywhere. The guardsmen switftly catch up, but they, too, are hampered by the sudden introduction of a treacherous, fruity floor underfoot. The entire group skids and slips their way in a mad scramble to alternately get away and catch their flaming prey as townsfolk look on in confusion and alarm.

Rey finally manages to get solid footing and once again hares his way up the street as the guards continue to stumble and slip behind him, the mercenary running headlong through the rapidly-parting crowds and accidentally setting fire to one or two people too slow to get out of the way.

With chaos reigning in his wake and the guards apparently at least a street behind, Rey finally rounds a corner to a more familiar sight- the large fish restaurant that he remembered seeing on one of the main thoroughfares from the town gates to the docks is visible at one of the ends of this road.

Screams and sounds of panic intensify from behind him.

The other two strike at Rey with their swords, one slicing into Rey's body and leaving a horrible chill behind. The second unsuccessfully attempts to bypass the forcefield, his blow glancing off.

The crossbowman loads another bolt, this one white-tipped, and fires at Rey. Rey, however, sees this one coming and, despite it passing through the forcefield, manages to dodge out of the way at the last moment, causing the bolt to strike the ground behind him with a sudden vacuum-implosion, dragging a large amount of the torrential rain and runoff into it and unleashing it all at once as a surge of water. The guards running up the hill are caught in the sudden flood, one getting swept away down the hill, one struggling to maintain their footing, and only one managing to continue at any sort of pace.

The icy-sword-weilding guard slices at Rey's arm, dealing minor damage and leaving another horrible chill in the blade's wake.
The itchy-sword-weilder stabs Rey through his field, dealing moderate damage and leaving a horrible crawling sensation through the pain.

The bell continues to toll.

Rey, on fire and struggling to keep his feet, sets his sights on the gate once more.

An eruption of ice shard rip through his first wound at the same time a sprouting mass of thorns tear through the second.

Rey dies.

Myselgleister's power, however sealed, isn't so weak as to allow its host to die so easily. With a roaring blast of flames, Rey stands once more at full health and free of the swords' effects, no longer burning with uncontrolled flames but once again standing in his aura of phoenix-fire. The guards look understandably shocked at this.

Seizing his chance, Rey bolts through the opening and onto the road beyond, the guards gathering themselves to follow.

The road heads uphill and northward towards a forest, splitting off to the west to snake up towards and atop the cliff-route he arrived here by. There's another road that goes around the town wall, too.

kitsune106 wrote: He'll be making a beeline for his ship, trying to get as far away from teh guards as he can. IF he is being followed, evasive measures are a go!

Aeromage wrote: Rey immediately makes for the clifftop road in a bid to get back to his ship as fast as possible. He then recalls that his ship is, in fact, about four hours away on foot. This is going to be a rather hectic cross-country event.

Risking a quick look back over his shoulder, he can see that a group of six guards is running up the road to the cliff below him, while more seem to be working to force the smashed gate open enough to let something else through. The constant clanging of the alarm bell can still be heard from the guard tower.

Rey has a head-start on his opposition. He can sort-of remember the direction he's supposed to be going, but the roads look rather different going in the other direction and the heavy rain following him is likely to make footing treacherous (not to mention making off-road shortcuts hazardously boggy). He has some consolation in the fact that the weather he whipped up is likely to be as much a hindrance to the guards as it is to him.

Is he going to do anything special in his attempt to get back to give himself further advantages or hinder his opponents, or is he going to just opt for a straightforward cross-country race?

Rey continues to run, surrounding terrain beginning to get hillier as he continues on. He takes a right-hand turn onto the less-well-paved road he's pretty sure he originally came down, heading towards the farmland beyond, passing fields and barns at speed. From the sound of the heavy footfalls berhind him, the guardsmen are starting to gain on him.

kitsune106 wrote: Rey attempts to speed up. He will toss a fwe coins behind him, hoping to discourage too close following.

Nonetheless, he tosses some coins over his shoulder to more explosions, although he doesn't check to see what happened.

Rey continues to run! Farms and fields, barns and banks of sodden grass roll by, and he, once again, comes to a familiar deeply-flooded section of road. The guards seem to have fallen somewhat behind, but the mercenary can hear hoofbeats coming from over the hill behind him.

kitsune106 wrote: He plunges into the river and tries to sink down, trusting in the suit to protect him and carry him along. hes hoping to lose pursuit this way...

This part of the countryside is, unfortunately, mostly free of forests and woodlands, instead being a rolling patchwork of fields and farms separated by fences and hedges. There's a couple of farmhouses out in the boggy fields relatively nearby, however, and Rey remembers that over the next hill was that walled village.

kitsune106 wrote: he's going to try to loose themin teh hedges and fields of tall plants. hopefully he can get away

Aeromage wrote: Rey is fortunate in that the deep water gives the pursuing mounted guards considerable trouble, forcing them to attempt to coax the horses through whilst trying to stay afloat in their armour. Some attempt to jump the fences to the waterlogged fields, but the soft, boggy ground causes one horse to fall and makes progress so slow for the others that Rey is able to dive into the hedges and into a tall, tangled field of some sort of overgrown crop. He catches a glimpse of the rest of the guards and a figure with what looks like a small ballista strapped to their back cresting the hill as he plunges into the plants.

Rey is able to make his way back to and around the village in relatively short order, and get his bearings regarding the direction he left the Corona Voyager in, two hours away.

More than once he sees a farmhouse or barn he thinks he remembers passing before, and adjusts his path accordingly.

It is only when he ends up back at the farmer's track that he realises that, somewhere along the way, he must have gotten turned around. While he can't see any of the guards around and isn't even sure if they managed to track him this far, he's definitely wasted a lot of time.

Whether due to the rain, already-waterlogged field, some quirk of its nature or all three, it seems to have sprouted more berries again amidst delicate, translucent flowers with water-droplet-like petals.

The soggy mercenary slogs through the rest of the farmland between him and his destination as quickly as his body allows, finally rounding the hill, dripping with rain and out of breath, but finding the Corona Voyager where he left it.

Something glowing bright red streaks out of the clouds towards the fields a mile back, a muffled report echoing through the heavy rain as it lands.

Aeromage wrote: Once again reunited with his vessel, Rey mans the controls, takes his ship up and flies on over to the location of the thing that landed.

What he finds is a field with a large patch of scorched and smoking plantlife blasted away from its centre, in the middle of which is somebody in a heavy rain cape and broad-brimmed hat with long, braided black hair. More notable is the weapon on their back, which is either an absurdly oversized crossbow or a small ballista.
Upon seeing the descending ship the figure pulls a small disc with a glass dome over it out from under the cape, considers it a moment, and then abruptly drops it, whirling the outsized weapon off their shoulders and planting it solidly in the ground, the end pointing vaguely in Rey's direction.
The behatted figure slaps something onto the large groove on its flight track. Moments later, an equally-oversized bolt appears readied on the thing with a juddering flash. At the same time, the person begins to rapidly wind the ballista-crossbow's winch wheel.

kitsune106 wrote: that is the sign to leave. Teh voyager turns around hard, trying to zoom away quickly in an evasive pattern to get out of range!

Aeromage wrote: Rey spins the ship around- rather too hard, causing it to fishtail and lose valuable time and momentum in fleeing. In desperation, Rey hammers buttons on the console and somehow manages to pull off an absurd skyrocketing semi-corkscrew manouevre that ends in a sudden gliding plunge with a rapid afterboost.
The ship is buffeted as the bolt is loosed, streaking from the end of the cross-ballista far faster than physics should rightly allow, blasting away the rain around it and forming a hazily-glowing wind-tunnel trail in its wake. The remainder of the plants in the field around the ballista are ripped free of their roots and blown away by the force of the attack.

The figure slaps something onto the ballista again, prompting another bolt to appear.

A familiar thunderclap-bellow issues from somewhere within the dark mass, followed by a streak of lightning hitting the fields below.

Aeromage wrote: Rey fires off a missile!

Or at least, he tries to. Somehow in the course of events (not helped by his lack of ship-piloting ability) he gets things mixed up, causing him to hit the engines at the same time as the missile launch button, causing the thing to veer wildly off course and explode in midair. The bull-thing, now visible upside-down from the underneath of the cloud, gives a thunder-bellow of rage and recognition as the missile explodes with a blinding flash.

More lightning falls, striking the Corona Voyager for moderate damage and hitting the ballista-crossbow-weilder as they attempt to fire off another huge bolt, this one metal with a chain attached to it. The force of the bolt hurls them away from the weapon before they can properly set the bolt up, tangling the arm of the bow with the chain. Thus jarred, the ballista fires, sending the electrocuted, lightning-attracting chain-bolt streaking skywards with the oversized weapon still attached, followed a moment later by its weilder, who is apparently tied to the thing with a length of rope and desperately trying to climb it back to the weapon in mid-flight. Bolt, ballista and weilder vanish into the clouds shortly afterwards.

Sensibly deciding to get as far away as fast as possible, Rey engages the engines (properly, this time) and shoots off towards the portal. A moment later a line of scorching blue-white light bursts through the clouds from above, drawing a bellow-scream of rage and pain from the cloud-bull and tearing tattered wisps of cloud off the upside-down beast's semi-corporeal body.

Additional flashes of lightning and odd light displays flicker and play in the receding cloud-layer behind Rey as he pushes away from the two distracted battlers.

A somewhat tense flight to the portal complex is made yet worse as, at almost the same time as the palatial array of buildings hoves into view, Rey's control panel informs him that the significant damage (and adverse weather) is causing several systems to fail. This would, perhaps, have been appreciated more if the ship wasn't presently in the process of plummetting sideways as its aft erupts in a shower of sparks.

kitsune106 wrote: Curse words blister the air as rey struggles to control the ship, trying to make an emergency landing safetly. He'll attempt to then pack the ship into his bag of holding, then hurry off into the portal nexus to get out of here. He's way way overstayed hte welcome.

Aeromage wrote: Rey wrestles with the controls, managing to get the nose back up by way of firing directional thrusters and pulls the ship into a glide, bringing it down heavily (but no worse off) and leaving a large, long furrow in a flower field half a mile from the portal complex.

The mercenary pulls himself out of the Corona Voyager, slightly bruised and shaken but unharmed. His plan to pack the ship into a bag of holding is impeded by his lack of a crucial part- namely, the bag of holding in question. He didn't bring one (and his character intro doesn't suggest anything about him owning such a thing, or coming from a magical world that would contain such things). That, and most bags tend to have a rather smaller opening than could fit a spaceship, even a small one.

Rey is, however, an engineer, and one versed in repairing vessels. The back of the ship looks pretty mangled, but he thinks he might be able to get it back up and running if he spends a while attempting to fix it up. The issue being, of course, that it would take time to do so.

kitsune106 wrote: He'll attmept to fix it up. If it is taking too long, say more then 4 hours and nowhere close, he'll hoof it into the portak, abandoning the ship. Otherwise, once its fixed up, both rey adn ship will be heading back to nexus.

Aeromage wrote: Rey sets about the business of repairing his ship. The first hour flies by, with Rey feeling like he really, really gets how it works, despite never having worked on the Voyager before. Then he realises that his innovative fixes and flashes of understanding weren't quite as astounding and insightful as he thought they were, forcing him to do them over in more mundane ways.

The ideas still bubble away in the back of his mind as he continues on to the second hour, however, forcing the incorrect methods this way and that in his imagination as he lets his hands take over, considering different approaches... and then it all suddenly clicks.

The next hour speeds by in a blur as he applies his new ideas to his repair efforts and finds them meeting success at every turn, gaining a good deal of understanding about how the various parts and systems of the Corona Voyager work and fixing it back up to, if not perfect condition, a state in which it should have no problems flying.

Notes: Rey's luck went all over the place in here. In fights, he was absolutely terrible. At least when he was out of the Voyager. Appropriately for his character theme, when he was in the ship he kept rolling well enough to mitigate damage from higher-level opponents along with a surprising number of exploding roll-chains that caused him to outright avoid damage. The opposition also had a tendency to botch at inopportune (for them) times.
He got really lucky, however, whenever it came to things involving repairing or tweaking things with his engineering skills (consistent runs of multi-90+ rolls, momentum on the part of dealing with the Corona-Voyager) and a very silly success-chain on breaking into and out of that one house (two 90+ in a row ending in a high roll, followed by a three-90+-roll streak), not to mention an improbably-successful run on attempting to invoke the powers of Myselgleister on two different occasions despite having absolutely no relevant abilities to use. Honestly, when it came to non-combat challenges, Rey utterly blew them out of the water for the most part. it's absurd.

Changing it to that and then approving it with a mark. It was previously too good at forcing high-Level stuff to hit elemental resistances/immunities for its cost/replicability/commanility.

Raincoat- (Armor, Clothing, Water, 500 Gold) +3 Defense, +2 Defense Against Water, +5% Water Resistance

Denied even though it's an existing item. That's one of the items that I've been trying to prevent from reappearing normally because it's weirdly hax rules-wise.

This isn't doing what you want it to. Right now, the attack spell-ish effects are applying buffs instead of attacking. We've got three routes to possibly rework this:
A) Convert the moves into enemy-style abilities that have damage values instead of attack bonuses
B) Convert the item into providing spells instead of providing abilities
C) Try to figure out a wording that makes the abilities launch attacks that incorporate their user's Magical Attack bonus plus this additional attack bonus like they're magical attack actions without actually being magical attack actions

Which route do you want to go here?

Right now, I don't understand the specifics of this beyond it being an ethereal, illusory glass. If that's all it is, it can be approved with a mark. If there's some other special property or interaction type I should be aware of on it, please elaborate on it (or, if you want it to have secret interactions, declare it bound).

Approving this as bound for now because I don't want to release Verdant Air as a new status effect right now. It's highly likely that the status effect will grow on me at some point, and, if it gets released into the wild, this item can be re-evaluated later. Approved with mark, but requesting that you provide an explanation of how this one works RP-wise since it's currently a javelin with a name that I don't fully understand (but that sounds kinda cool) that is somehow good at hitting distant stuff better than normal ranged attacks (but it's unclear how).

Folimbus, or 'Cloudwood', is a very light, easily-worked wood from trees of the same name. Originally from the Spirit World, they've gained popularity in some areas for ornamental purposes due to gathering cloud around their branches, rather than leaves. Different varieties exist which 'sprout' different kinds of clouds. Despite being very light, this kind of wood also cuts through the air very easily- combined with its lightness, this means that ranged weapons made from it tend to fly much further (or, in the case of bows and the like, apply the same property temporarily to their ammunition) and lose less force over distance. Of course, this tends to apply to piercing-type weapons only, similar to the myth of hurricanes being able to blow straws through trees. Throwing a very light hammer at someone, for instance, isn't going to do you much good.

This was originally intended to grant spell-like effects, although turning them into enemy-style moves would also be fine if that would make it easier. If it grants spells, they'd count as Geomancy, while if it goes the enemy-moves route, it'd use SPI as the prime stat. The book is pretty old, which is why it manifested the abilities it did, and took a somewhat 'conservation of energy' approach to its original study, hence using up Zones to power effects.

2 Pallean Glass- (Item, Material, Aether & Illusion, 9,720,000 Gold)

Right now, I don't understand the specifics of this beyond it being an ethereal, illusory glass. If that's all it is, it can be approved with a mark. If there's some other special property or interaction type I should be aware of on it, please elaborate on it (or, if you want it to have secret interactions, declare it bound).

Pallean Glass is a particular material that spawns in Pallea, the Fading Province. It embodies the themes of Fragility and Impermanence found in much of the place. Stuff made from this tends to break on use/activation, or otherwise vanish after a set period of time. It is, however, very good at making items that take stuff with it when it goes- an example would be a glass ring-accessory that can be permanently broken to remove all status effects or debuffs on a person. Due to this, things made from it can have potent, but by their very nature one-shot effects.
