Aeromage wrote: The duo enter a palatial hall of shining jade and marble from an elaborately-carved portal supported by statues. Opulently-wrought pillars of green jade support soaring, vaulted ceilings and archways, reliefs worked into the stone depicting legendary beasts and mighty spirits. Ornate carving on the walls, picked out in semiprecious stones, show yet more impressive works, impressive-looking creatures doing battle with each other as well as figures in robes and veiled hats. Vast windows with complex patterns are set high into the walls, although no light is let through. Instead, a large number of floating lanterns illuminate the hall.
Small groups of individuals in grey robes and tall hats, and some in red and white stand here and there, conversing, reading tomes or observing the newcomers.

Heracles approaches the central desk, manned by the severe-looking woman with the fanlike hairstyle and plethora of hairpins.
"You are bid welcome to Seirei and the lands of House Clavis," the woman states, in tones neither warm nor welcoming. "State your name, and I shall have papers drawn up for your visit to our lands."

Celiria holds Saepor in her free (and only) hand. Through the railing-spear, she can sense... layers. She can feel that there is another world, another layer of reality adjoining this one, and that, with the spear's power, she could step through as swiftly and easily as one would pass through a gap in a fence. She can't tell what lies on the other side of that metaphorical barrier, however. Perhaps if she was more experienced with the spear, with divination, or other related fields, she might be able to catch a glimpse as to where it is she'd end up. As it is, she can only tell that she can get there, wherever it might be.
kitsune106 wrote: Hera chuckles.

Aeromage wrote: The clerk continues to fix Heracles with an icy glare. "Atra. See to his papers."
An ornate key on the woman's desk erupts into a gout of whirling ink, consolidating its mass into the form of a faceless woman drawn in thin air. Sheets of paper begin to lift off the desk of their own accord, meeting the 'hands' of the living ink-drawing as she gestures, text and images filling the pages.

"You are a visitor to our world, and as such shall be expected to abide by our laws in a manner befitting one. Should you encounter members of the esteemed Order, you are to afford them the greatest respect at all times, and refrain from impeding the performance of their vital duties to the House, the people, and indeed the world at large. Comport yourself with dignity and decorum, and your stay shall be a pleasant one."

The papers hover in front of the woman's face for a moment, being met with a raised eyebrow and eventual nod. "Your papers are ready. The relevant information, including directions to the Hunter's Association and a brief outline of the laws are contained within. I wish you a safe journey."

Aeromage wrote: The duo navigate the opulent halls and manicured courtyards of the portal complex, eventually passing through into the countryside beyond. A brilliant cascade of stars twinkle in the sky overhead, blotted here and there by clouds. The top of a vast green moon is just about visible above the western horizon, its surface undulating and rippling with various other greens and yellows. To the east, the sky is considerably lighter and tinted a yellow-orange. High above, a second moon- this one smaller and considerably uglier, its dull brown surface scarred and pitted- hangs, casting little light.

A wide, smooth, white-stone road running from east to west meets the road to the portal complex, fields dotted with trees rolling out from the area in all directions. Someone has helpfully erected a white-stone signpost opposite the road to the portal complex. This is not what Celiria is interested in, however.
The dragon-dragoon instead unslings the railing-spear, focusing on the power held within it and the connection to the other reality she can feel just beyond the one she stands in.

Heracles watches as Celiria sidesteps, abruptly vanishing as if beyond an invisible curtain and leaving him alone in the night.

------------------------

Celiria steps out into a vast field of flowers under a green-black night sky. High above, a massive green moon hangs amidst a star-strewn backdrop, its surface a wavering, rippling mass of greens and golds. Sparkling clouds shimmer out from the central lunar focal point, filling the sky with shifting, changing patterns of bright golden-green, the smoky veils obscuring the stars as they drift.
The air is cool and damp, the scents of flowers both common and exotic heavy on the gentle, fitful breezes. None of the flowers, Celiria notes, are open- all of them are either closed or still budding. Some larger examples are lit with a glow from within, providing dim pools of light in the floral sea. Other areas are lit by flickering, dancing firefly-lights, fading into and out of view, never in the same place twice.
kitsune106 wrote: celiria blinks and tries to sidestep back to hera, then tries to sidestep back over with HIM before getting her bearings.
Aeromage wrote: Celiria once again slips through the gap between worlds the railing-spear provides, stepping out in front of Heracles once more. Taking hold of one of his huge arms, she turns, spear in hand, and sidesteps once more.

Her grasp on Heracles' arm begins to skid and slide, as if attempting to grip an eel underwater. The act of stepping through is taking longer this time, too.
Heracles, in the moment it takes for Celiria to vanish, feels almost as if he's stepping through a veil to somewhere else, but at the last instant Celiria's hand slips and vanishes along with the rest of her, leaving him standing in the road by himself once again.

-------------------

Celiria steps back out into the flower field at night, with no Heracles to show for it. It seems the spear's primary purpose (as it is now) is to transport its weilder, rather than groups, but she thinks she almost had it, there. Maybe she needs more practice.
kitsune106 wrote: CEliria pouts. but tries again! She WILL GET THIS!
Aeromage wrote: Celiria sidesteps once more back to the physical(?) world, grabs Heracles firmly by the arm, and tries to force the both of them back through the gap between worlds. This time, there is a significant amount of resistance. Celiria feels as though she's wading through treacle as she attempts to pass back to the other side, Heracles' body an immense weight that forces her to fight for every inch towards her goal, the air pulling at her limbs, the space-between-spaces an almost solid barrier.
With a laboured, sucking sensation, Celiria and Heracles both stumble out into the green-moonlit flower field under the starry night sky.
It seems that, as things presently stand, dragging others along with her turns the Sidestep power from a blink-of-an-eye instant process to a long, difficult struggle that would leave both her and her passengers vulnerable to interference. Not something to try in a dangerous situation.
kitsune106 wrote: hera blinks.

Celiria frowns. "okay.. not something to try with a pasenger in an aemergy.
She blinks and takes out teh postcard and focuses on it as she hoolds out the railing, seeing if she can get a feel for the locations mentioned in the postcard.
Aeromage wrote: Celiria takes out the postcard. It looks much the same, although the sky depicted above the weird hole-in-reality flower-fields in the picture looks a lot more vibrant in this light, a kaleidoscopic whirl of cloudy colour and shattered shapes.
Squinting at the correspondence, the dragoon-dragon tucks Saepor awkwardly into the crook of her handless arm and attempts to get a feel for what direction the locations shown might lie in.

Try as she might, all she gets from her divinatory efforts is a headache and the feeling she might well go cross-eyed if she tries to make any more sense of the city's impossible skyline. Seriously, some of those rooftops cannot be joined up in that way. There's both far too many and far too few angles and perspectives there, and at least three colours she's pretty sure don't exist.
kitsune106 wrote: celirai shrugs. She holds out the tailing ot the postcard and tries ot focus, trying to WILL herself to go there with teh spear, before tryin gt sidestep.
Aeromage wrote: Celiria stares at the postcard and its two eye-bending pictures, focusing on them, willing them to be the destination for her next jaunt through the Spirit World.

Celiria sidesteps.

Heracles is left alone in the nighttime flower field.

----------------------------

Celiria emerges, once again, onto the road by the signpost, gate complex still visible opposite. The sky remains the same, which is perhaps odd given it looked like the sun was rising over in the east a while back. Maybe it's some sort of large fire instead. In any case, it doesn't seem like she's going to get to the Fading Province quite that easily.
kitsune106 wrote: celiria blins and goes to investigate hte fire? Heracles starts to poke around the area!
Aeromage wrote: Celiria heads off eastwards, following the road towards the yellow-orange glow. Somewhere in the night, a crow lets out a harsh series of cawing cries, fading out abruptly with a flurry of wings.
The dragoon walks through the night, stone lanterns casting some illumination from semi-regular positions dotted along the road, the cool air carrying the sound of crickets and other, less-identifiable wildlife and the rustling of leaves. The distant yellow-orange glow disappears at times as the road dips, other times as hedgerows or trees interrupt Celiria's view. An hour of walking later, and the glow doesn't seem any greater or less intense or, indeed, any closer, remaining over the horizon.. It's either very large and far away, or the sun is doing something very weird.
A flurry of wings and the harsh, grating calls of a murder of crows interrupts Celiria's thoughts as she suddenly finds herself set upon by a number of small, black winged shapes that almost immediately rebound as her forcefield activates and repels them. The sound of a blade being drawn drags her attention back to the centre of the road where a tall, black-winged, red-skinned individual with a highly prominent nose, a mane of white hair and elaborately-embroidered, baggy red robes and trousers now stands.

"So, this is one of the individuals that set upon my servants the night the southern skies caught flame," the Great Tengu states, tone level and mirthless. "Your trespass and murder have yet to redressed. Tell me, dragonspawn, will you be paying in blood this night, or by other means?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heracles wades through the sea of closed blossoms, the canopy coming up to his thighs. Not being a botanist, he can't really tell much about the plants besides there being a lot of different sorts. He thinks. Most of the flowers look the same when they're closed. There's different colours (although it's hard to tell in the dark and the pools of light around the big, glowing ones tend to be tinted), and the leaves are all different shapes and a lot of them smell different, and they're definitely flowers, but there's not a lot more than that he can tell.
The bigger, lantern-ish flowers are dotted here and there with no real pattern he can guess at. Sometimes there's more of them in one place, sometimes less. Off in one direction there don't seem to be any at all, leaving a wide swathe of darkness broken here and there by dancing clumps of fireflies. Another direction seems to hold more of the light-plants (and more of the fireflies), making it almost seem like the night sky and ground are blending together. Another direction seems to have larger glow-flowers growing in it, and less even... ground? The tall sea of flowers seems to rise and fall in waves there.
kitsune106 wrote: celiria blinks then frowns. "Oh.. the angel.. " she bows gently to them. "I apologize for him. I did try to keep it civil. My companion on that night, was more dark in his soul then I had though. I will pay via other ways, but I would ask that you also make him pay as well."
The forcefield of celiria is kept very very much up! but she is not letting it reflect into them.

--------------------
Hera blinks at this.
he frowns and heads off in the direction of hte light plants. Another direction seems to hold more of the light-plants (and more of the fireflies), making it almost seem like the night sky and ground are blending together.
Aeromage wrote: "And how might you compensate me for such crimes?" The Great Tengu cocks his head slightly, an eyebrow raised. "Two of my servants lie slain at the hands of you and your companion both. To refuse payment in blood is to invite an equally severe cost. Tell me, dragonspawn, would you serve in place of the servant whose blood lies on your hands? Else, would you suggest you find suitable replacements for such a loss? One does not refuse such obligations with vague promises."
The spirit's eyes glow white, his wings ruffling, their outline lost against the night sky and giving the impression that they encompass a far greater space than they should. The result makes the open road feel very claustrophobic.
"Your companion is also not present. Would you have me stay my demands that you might run to fetch him, never to return? I think not. Should he return and word reach me, I shall have him pay the cost of two servants in kind, as you shall. Now, your answer."

-------------------------------------------------------

Heracles slogs off through the sea of flowers towards the lighter fields, vines tangling around his feet and tearing under his strength, leaves and buds slapping agains his legs and knees.
The lantern-plants grow more numerous the further he walks, with other varieties catching his attention as he continues. The fist-sized lantern-flowers drooping on their stalks are joined by spires of balled buds with soft lights caught within them, large bending spires of green each laden with rows of blue-white teardrop-flowers, bushes covered in long, furled spirals of golden petals that radiate light and perfume, clusters of tiny red stalks in firework-like patterns...

Before long, Heracles is standing in a dark field dotted with myriad colourful points and pools of light, fireflies dancing all around both him and the lit flowers in the area. It looks like the fields get even brighter further ahead, with the vast majority of the flowers being lit up, and fireflies dancing everywhere. Other things drift and whirl amidst the lights that Heracles can't quite make out at this distance.
Here and there in the fields around him, lit flowers dim and other flowers begin to glow.

*Postcard from the Fading Province Addressed To Celiria- (Item, Quest Item, Aether & Dream & Illusion, 73,321,876 Gold)

The postcard shows a diagonally-split duo of pictures. One is an eye-bending vista of purple hills dotted with flowers that are also holes in reality, showing a kaleidoscopic maelstrom of colour beyond it, all under a shattered sky that seems to contain far too many dimensions than a flat image reasonably should. The other is a picture of a glitzy-looking town with an unusual skyline, all lights and colours and bizarre rooftops. The more Celiria looks at the city, the less sense it makes.
The hills have the caption "Pallea- Where what was, isn't, no longer is and can't be exists!". The city-picture has the caption "Quielucio- Where Dreams Become Reality!".

Flipping it over, Celiria sees a brief note in elegant script.
"If you want your thief, you have options. -C.F.

Recommended reading: The Dreamers of Iactura"

Small text atop the postcard's back denotes the pictures as "The Chiaroscuro Hills, Fading Province" and "The City on the Fading Edge of Dreams and Reality, From the Other Other West Gate", both taken by 'Unknown'.

----------------------------------

Hera blinks at this and does go to pick a few of the flowers before moving to start to continueon the path to get to the brighter part.
Aeromage wrote: The Great Tengu appears to have paused in incredulity.

Then Celiria realises that it's not just him that has paused, but the entire world. And that she is holding not the postcard, but an old-fashioned, opulently-decorated white-and-gold telephone. The receiver is floating by her ear.
At the other end, a rambling, tired-sounding male voice speaks.

"Yes, this is Mr. Progression...

...

...well...

...thanks for calling.

Miss Explosion, wasn't it?

Looks like you're in a bit of a mess here.

...not as much as another mess I could name, but still.

You really need to be more careful, you know?

Especially at your age...

...I mean, I suppose being old is better than the alternative.

Not that I'd know. I don't look a day over four centuries...

People often ask me how I keep my youthful good looks. Do you know what I tell them?

"How dare you speak to me."

...honestly, coming up out of nowhere and asking about someone's beauty secrets.

People can be so rude.

Really, it's rude.

...not to mention they'd have to get past all the security.

I'm a big deal, you know? A big deal.

I'd set my security on them.

...well, if I had any.

Maybe I'd get some of those guardian statue-spirits...

...or some guys with fancy armour...

...or hire on some of those Arena Member types...

...

...on second thought, maybe not.

They tend to get bored easily and break things.

Like vases. Or cities.

Or the fabric of dimensional spacetime...

...do you know how much it costs to replace one of those?

It's a lot.

Really, a whole lot.

...

...well, anyway.

I'm here to apologise for the wait.

...well, I know that no time has passed for you...

...but at the same time, a lot of it has passed...

...it's because of so and so and such and such a reason, you see. Thank you for your patience. The boss says he wasn't expecting the festival to be as big a thing as it was...

...and then this and that happened...

...well, anyway. I'm here to give you a refresher on your journey so far.

Not that there's much of it to give a refresher on...

You came in to get your thief back.

...it's going to take you a while to do that, you know?

It's not something you're going to be able to do in a single thread.

...I mean adventure.

No, I didn't say anything different.

I definitely didn't say anything meta.

Don't worry about it.

...anyway.

You came in, got your huge friend some papers, and then messed about with your fancy new spear from that mystery merchant guy.

You managed to get Mr. Brawn over into the Spirit World, but your attempt to use the spear to sidestep into Quielucio didn't work...

...seriously, did you think it would be that easy to get there? It wouldn't be a mythical city if it was.

Then you went and abandoned Mr. Brawn in the Spirit World while you went off to check out the fire, which is actually a moon...

Go team.

...don't worry about him, he's long gone.

Your investigation kind of got impeded by the boss of those Kotengu you killed last time, too.

...but I already told you the best way to handle that guy.

My advice is to follow the advice I gave you earlier.

...which I suppose is also later by some perspectives...

Drop by the Spirit Hunter's Association to put your money on your Promissory Notebook and then follow that postcard's advice, and go to Chart's Charts.

It's in Clavia. Just ask around for it.

...and try not to tell anyone else about the book you're looking for on the way there.

Well, nobody in law enforcement or working for the Houses, anyway.

Once you've read that book and gone and got what you need, asking around the Clavia branch of the Spirit Hunter's Association for help to get to the place isn't a bad idea.

...there's a few people wanting to get to the city themselves, you see.

And you've got access to resources they don't.

...speaking of which, I'll give you those things you got in the Festival.

...well, maybe not the curse. You'll probably have a hard enough time even without it.

That'll wait until the big guy gives things the okay.

And don't forget, even though it might have been a while, you're still supernaturally old in a way that bypasses your draconic age-empowerment and missing a hand.

...

...well, anyway.

Keep a hold of the phone. The boss says it's by way of apology.

...just call if you get stuck or need advice or something.

It'll only work once, though.

...so don't just go calling me back asking what this was all about.

Really, don't.

...well...

...thanks for calling.

This has been Mr. Progression."

A fragrant wreath of flowers abruptly grows out of Celiria's head. At the same time, a baroquely-ornamented white-and-gold X-shaped sign appears in mid-air at the edge of her vision, with three lamps, two of opulent ruby and one of exquisite yellow topaz, hanging underneath it.
The words 'OFF TRACK' are embossed on both arms of the X-shaped sign. At present, only the topaz lamp is lit.

Celiria finds herself with:

Anti-Distraction Quest-Focus Alarm- (Passive Ability, Blessing) At the start and end of each round, if in a Random Quest, Mini Quest, Random Dungeon or Player Quest, possessor is cured of Confusion and Fatigued: Asleep, as an RP power possessor is informed if a choice or decision would send them off-task or derail their chosen goal in a quest

Heracles' copy of Mind-Destroying Hypnosis is also on her person.

Time jitters and rewinds slightly.

"And how might you compensate me for such crimes?" The Great Tengu cocks his head slightly, an eyebrow raised.

The Great Tengu doesn't seem to have noticed the hovering OFF TRACK sign or Celiria's sudden sprouting of a floral wreath.

The Tengu's wings close about him, momentarily blotting him from view against the night sky. A rush of air, and the spell is abruptly snatched from Celiria's grasp.
"Your portion of the debt is paid. Do not give me cause to visit upon you again."

Another burst of air, stronger this time, and the Great Tengu and his attendants are gone from the road, leaving Celiria alone on the white flagstones with only the faint rustling of foliage in the breeze and the song of crickets for company.

Celiria takes flight, pushing off from the ground and soaring skywards! Beneath her, the road becomes a greyish ribbon dotted with pools of light from roadside lanterns. Further east, it seems to split and head towards a cluster of lights surrounded by small groups of smaller lights. To the west, the opulent splendour of the Gate Complex stands out like a beacon amongst the darkness of the countryside, its extravagant exterior thrown into a dramatic tableau of elegant carvings and shadows from the lights surrounding and covering it.
Flapping her wings in a somewhat more laboured fashion than she's used to given her supernatural ageing, Celiria heads off west, towards the rippling surface of the huge, green moon than peeks above the horizon like an oddly well-lit and disproportionately large hillside.

Her trip passes in a thankfully uneventual fashion, with little but the sound of the wind rushing past her and through her wings to accompany her. Beneath her, the road wends its way ahead between pools of light, its route meandering more and more as the countryside becomes hillier. A branch splits off to the north, towards another cluster of lights, the route oddly less of a series of pools of light and more of a long strip. From here, however, Celiria is able to see the horizon ahead brighten as the capital city of the province begins to come into view.
The three-tiered bridge-city is perhaps even more impressive at night; its location straddling the canyon and illumination gives it the impression of floating in the night air, its well-lit lattices of roads and buildings hovering above the void. The huge central pillar supporting the upper tier is a blaze of light and colour- the dragon-statue on the side facing Celiria has its six wings and each of its scales glowing a different hue, and its silvery halo-ring and glassy mane shimmer with light.

Guild Street is easy to locate, especially from the air, being one of the largest, most central streets leading up to the huge central circuit of the Parkway. At night, it is even more obviously opulent, each of the buildings of the official guilds, successful businesses or civic structures vying with one another for space and attention.
The Spirit Hunter's Association is where she remembers it being on the junction between Guild Street and the Parkway, its marble facade still vaguely reminiscent of an expensive hotel.

The man falls silent for a few seconds, standing completely still.

The area of town it exists in looks to be somewhat less well-off than the obviously opulent areas surrounding Guild Street and the Parkway. Many of the shops around here are smaller affairs, organised into small parades, broken up with pleasant, yet not overly extravagant residential neighbourhoods.
Chart's Charts is a two-storey affair in the middle of one such parade, bordered by a shop that sells dresses and a café of some description. Its windows are somewhat dusty, with a carefully-arranged selection of maps of various locations on display, with a number of books also present on either side. Celiria thinks she can just about make out rows of bookshelves and pigeonholes contailing rolled-up maps in the dim illumination of the lanterns hanging over the street. The shop, as well as all of the other establishments in the area, look to be unlit, with the exception of a liquor store at the end of the road, a cheerful display of various bottles of alcohol filling its windows.
The door to Chart's Charts has a little 'Closed' sign on its large glass window, with a helpful list of its opening hours posted below. Looks like it opens at 9 o'clock in the morning.

"Welcome back to the Clavia Branch of the Spirit Hunter's Association, member Celiria Dragonheart. One moment, if you please." He falls silent for a few seconds, standing completely still.
"Ah, yes." A slight nod. "We have many members who specialise in the removal of curses, as well as connections to shrines and temples across the world to provide expedient services of a similar nature no matter where our members might be. As a member, you will be able to apply for such services at reduced rates, but be mindful that individual members may set their prices according to their own whims. If you so wish, services can instead be paid for with service in kind, whether it be through accepting or assisting the undertaking of requests, or through agreements of a more individual nature, according to their provider." The man inclines his head again, the smile in the blank mask glinting. "Do note that non-members requiring such services will accrue an additional charge and may not undertake Association Requests in lieu of other forms of payment."
He straightens. "If you require such services immediately, please state the nature and severity of the curse and a qualified member or associate shall be notified immediately. For non-urgent instances, it is recommended that you file a Request to be posted on the Inter-Member Request Board."
kitsune106 wrote: Celiria nods.

She will take the time after that to look over the board.
Aeromage wrote: "A request shall be filed on the Inter-Member Request Board. Should you wish to amend it with any further information regarding its severity and effects, please inform the receptionist on duty."

Celiria looks at the request boards! There's two of them. These ones seem to be mostly requests posted by outside sources, or more official Association-backed requests on behalf of outside sources (denoted by a red tag with a 'Request Number' attached). The non-official ones vary wildly in style, content and professionalism and look to be more general requests from locals and local establishments ranging from pleas to find lost pets and requests for tutors to appeals to investigate rumours of spiritual activity or demands for bodyguards, all with varying rewards posted- generally in gold, but sometimes stating goods or services as their payment.
The official ones contain far less in the way of unfounded rumour, and look to pay better, involve more risk, and require traveling further afield.

The amber light on Celiria's Anti-Distraction Quest-Focus Alarm clicks on.

Aeromage wrote: Celiria checks out the board for requests that catch her attention!

While there's a lot of interesting ones, she's somewhat limited by her rank in which she can go for.
The following jump out the most:

-A Rank 2 Request to travel to the Vire Province to deal with the 'persistent vine problem' plaguing the city of Sylvent. The House of Blossoms is credited as the sponsor and promises gold for helping deal with the vines, or 'rewards to increase one's power and potential' should any takers manage to get to the bottom of whatever is causing the problem.
-A Rank 2 Request asking that interesting examples of spears, lances and materials to create such be brought in for study to help an aspiring smith in the employ of Figo Bladeworks refine his designs and get promoted to a higher station. A 'customised weapon' is promised as a reward should the request be fulfilled successfully.
-A Rank 3 Request asking for Association Members that don't mind the risks of venturing into the Spirit World to investigate the other side of the newly-formed reality breach in Marefore. A warning states that the hole, and likely the area beyond it, radiates a 'poisonous, malignant energy' and cautions would-be applicants to prepare accordingly. The request has apparently been sent by House Clavis, and as such rewards for pertinent information and items from the other side will include large quantities of gold and 'increased standing in the eyes of the House'.
-A Rank 3 Request to clear and secure the Jasmine Tower in order to prevent the strange plant-entities that reside within it from attempting to conquer the surrounding area. The place is thought to be rather large and contains enemies able to 'charm and beguile' and 'pierce spiritual protections to damage one's spiritual wellbeing'. Rewards include 'whatever you find in the tower', 'a share of the final proceeds' and a mention of a significant boost in reputation inside the Association.

Levana... Celiria actually doesn't know too much about Levana, besides recruiting her. She recalls Levana (and Orkanith) being cleared for Rank 1 and 2 missions, however. Given that, the Rank 2 requests that jumped out at her earlier might work, in addition to:
-A Rank 1 Request from Sister Priscilla of the Order of Merciful Release to protect and assist her in visiting a remote town struck by illness in the wake of the Seed Rains in order to ensure the dying won't rise as Revenants and instead find 'true peace beyond life and death'. The pay isn't very high, but promises increased standing with her sect of the Church of the Absent Goddess, with the potential for better things further down the line.
-A Rank 2 Request asking for people with an 'interest in air travel' and 'materials that would assist in improving airships' to come to Marefore. Rewards are mentioned as scaling, although details are vague.

That having been committed to memory as well as she can, Celiria summons up a Draconite Bladesman, takes a seat in one of the plush booth-chairs, rests her draconic snout on the table and prompty commences napping.

Celiria wakes up some time later to bright sunlight streaming through the windows and hitting her eyes, the lobby now filled with the sound of talking, laughter and general hubbub. It looks like quite a few Association Members are up and about checking the boards, talking to the receptionist (now a brunette lady in a ruffled purple dress and the same blank-but-for-a-smile mask), each other, or generally going about their business.
The stone clock-face hanging above the main entrance lets Celiria know that it's presently 9:12.

Aeromage wrote: She sets off! A couple of the Association members seem to have been watching her with amusement, but nobody follows her as she leaves the building and out into the bright morning light.

Guild Street, and the city at large, looks to be bustling at this time of day. Carriages and pedestrians throng the roads, either heading towards the Parkway or using the street as a route to other parts of the city. For all the impressive buildings along it, it looks like there aren't too many people actually entering them, the Spirit Hunter's Association and what looks to be a bank the only exceptions.

Making her way on foot through the noisy crowds (as her Bladesman isn't a flying variant) and along the wide, open expanse of elaborately-flagstoned roads that form the Parkway, the dragoon recognises the Songs For The Moon stage, presently in the process of being dismantled. The Festival, it seems, has not long been over. Street vendors still line the outskirts of the carefully-sculpted gardens and parks, hawking food and trinkets, albeit in far smaller numbers than before.

The crowds thin as she returns to the northern area of the city, the majority of the residential areas she passes through quiet in the post-morning rush. The parade of shops Chart's Charts sits in is similarly sleepy. A small group of middle-aged ladies sit at the table outside the café with tea and sandwiches, abruptly stopping their gossiping as the pair of draconic individuals pass them on the way to the bookshop.

The door's sign has been flipped to 'Open'. The windows are rather too dusty and reflecting a bit too much light to properly make out at anything inside at present.
kitsune106 wrote: She will start looking for Chart. Explaining to the owner she is looking for a certain book and was told he could help.

Aeromage wrote: The man running the place (apparently by himself) is Martellus Chart, a scholarly-looking, middle aged chap with round glasses and a genial air. His expression changes when Celiria tells him the book he's looking for.

"...ah. Are you quite sure that's the book you're after? I'm certain you must be mistaken. Quite besides being an exceptionally rare work of fiction, it also happens to be banned by the August Order of Spirit Tamers for promoting some considerably unsafe practices and potentially inciting the breaking of a considerable number of laws."
Celiria notices his eyes momentarily flick to something behind her.
"While I certainly do deal in rare and unusual tomes, many of which, I am proud to say, have likely not graced bookshelves in centuries- carefully expunged of all spiritual presence, of course, either through considerable effort of some very talented exorcists or the transcription efforts of yours truly- my establishment is one that operates fully within the law at all times."
He claps his hands together, regaining some of his cheer.. "Ah, but you are one of those visitors from Nexus, are you not? One certainly couldn't fault you for not knowing the minutiae of what is and isn't contraband in these parts, I'm sure! I'm not sure where you heard about such an esoteric work, but if it's tales of fiction and adventure you want, I happen to have quite the selection of books I could recommend- all of excellent quality, I assure you- in that vein. Perhaps one of the compilations of myths and legends from before the Dreaming Moon came to be? Or, I suppose-" Chart's cheery expression twitches somewhat, "-if you're after somewhat lighter reading in that genre, I happen to stock the Crimson Gale series. Rather popular with the youth of today, although I can't profess it's to my particular taste, and skirts a little too close to the law for comfort at times."

Martellus rummages around behind his counter, emerging every now and then with a small stack of books, a few of which let out puffs of dust as he drops them beside his till. "As a newcomer to the area, I would also thoroughly," he stresses the word, "recommend Literatea, a local establishment for the... literarily inclined, especially if they have interest in such old and rare works. They happen to have quite the selection of transcribed books- many supplied by yours truly, and many not presently held in my possession- for perusal whilst one takes tea there."
The man looks thoughtful for a moment. "Or breakfast, I suppose, given the hour. Might be a little on the early side for it, but I heavily" again, that oddly heavy stress on the word, "recommend visiting it before you return through the Gate. Ask for their Literature Lover's Collection Special, but for goodness' sake, tell them to leave out the salmon sandwiches. I find it to be their only weak point on an otherwise excellent menu. I'd also heavily recommend asking for a seat on their garden terrace. The view over the chasm is quite spectacular, and a perfect setting to lose yourself in a good book."
kitsune106 wrote: Celiria smiles. "That does sound like a good idea. And maybe offering guidebooks for the well, tourists would be a profit maker for you. I know I will be taking an early lunch there at Literatea."

She looks at the books he has arranged for her, curious how many and how much he's asking. She does check the.lamps on her alarm as she looks over the titles.

Both dragon dragoon and draconite bladesman set off once more, wending their way from the bookshop, past the gossiping ladies (who once again stop their chat to stare at the scaly pair) and off into the larger adjoining road that traces a path from the Parkway towards the city's edge, an oddly empty space beyond the residential rooftops and stores.

The Outer Promenade is a sizable road stretching along the city's edge, a large paved area dotted with small shrubberies and lawns acting as a buffer between it and the stone trellis that marks the end of the layer. Through the pattern of holes (occasionally covered, here and there, by flowering vines), Celiria is afforded an impressive view of the canyon that the city straddles, its edges slowly climbing in height to the north. Cascades of greenery, intersperced with the occasional waterfall, are visible, both plunging into the gloom below, those on the western side glittering in the morning sunlight, small rainbows visible here and there as the spray passes through the morning sunlight and into the shadows below.

Most of the buildings in this area look to be well-to-do houses. Presumably having such a view is something of a desireable trait. Here and there, a small pavilion or other building springs from the other side of the road, set either in the midst of a patch of green or butting up against (and in some cases, overhanging) the city's edge.
One such building is a pleasant wood-framed stone affair set apart from the surrounding area. Patios surround it, broken up by flower-covered dividing screens and planters overgrown in an artistically unkempt fashion, all contained within low-slung walls topped with fancy wooden screens. The main entrance to the grounds looks to be through a wooden archway from which a whimsical teapot-and-book sign hangs.

Aeromage wrote: The tea rooms do indeed look to be open, at least if the people currently on the patio- a gentleman reading a newspaper in front of a pot of tea and a pair of old ladies with books and a plate of sandwiches sitting between them- are anything to go by.

There isn't a clock nearby, but the patio does contain a fancy sundial set in the middle of a flowerbed. From that, Celiria can tell it's somewhere in the later region of 9 o'clock. 9:45ish, maybe?
kitsune106 wrote: Celiria starts to head up, dismissing the bladesman for now adn trying to look as human as possible, although she probably can't do as much. She looks to see who else is around as she gets in line.
Aeromage wrote: Celiria enters Literatea, looking as anthropomorphic as possible.

The first thing that hits her is the scent. A powerful mixture of sweet spices and fragrant tealeaves mingle with the smell of books and baking, all rushing out as soon as she crosses the threshold.
Large windows let in the bright morning light, providing the dark wooden interior with a sense of warmth and openness and reflecting off a number of unlit hanging lanterns (many shaped like teapots) dangling from the ceiling. The place looks to be divided into two main sections- the first, in front of a large bar counter, houses a neat array of tables, many divided into semi-private spaces by display cases full of decorative teapots, plates and cups. A short set of stairs leads down towards the second main area, into what looks like an open-plan library, its tall, polished shelves crammed full of books and interspersed here and there with comfortable chairs and side-tables. A wide stairway leads to the floor above, a discreet sign indicating that the 'function rooms' are located beyond.

The counter itself is an impressive construction of dark wood and tastefully tarnished brass, housing an impressive pair of what Celiria assumes to be coffee machines, backed by an enormous floor-to-ceiling rack of pigeonholes filled with boxes and jars and containers of all varieties. A small collection of kettles sit on their own counter, next to a notably elaborate sink behind the bar.

"Goooooood morning!"
A cheery, trilling voice announces the arrival of an apron-wearing lady in a burgundy dress, sleeves rolled up to the elbows and slightly-greying reddish hair done up in an elaborate bun.
"Welcome to Literatea!" She looks Celiria up and down, apparently unperturbed by the dragon-woman's bizarre appearance. "I don't beliiiiieve we've had the pleasure of your custom before. If it's your first time, then welcome again! Here, weeeeee advocate feeding one's mind as well as one's body! We've a wonderful selection of teeeeeeas, as well as many, many varieties of scones, and preserves and cake, and, of course, our faaaaaamous collection of books!"
She produces two leather-bound folders with a flourish.
"Our menu and our recommended book menu for this season! Please feel freeeeeeeee to take a look through and let me know if anything takes your fancy, or if you prefer to browse, that's absolutely fine as well!"
kitsune106 wrote: Celiria has to smile.
"Why thank you. I heard many fine things about this place."
She pauses, tilts her head, thinks then.
"I would like the Literature Lover's Collection Special, but please, leave out the Salmon sandwiches. And if its okay, I'd like to sit on te garden terrace. I like being outdoors and lets be honest, having room to stretch is the best."
Aeromage wrote: The lady blinks, and then breaks into a wide smile.
"Ooooooh, it's been a while since we had a customer with such excellent taste! It'll take a liiiiiittle while to prepare, so I'll make you a cup of a special blend to tide you over while you sit! Let's see, it's a bit of this, and a bit of this..."
She flits behind the counter, plucking a teapot from underneath and opening boxes and containers seemingly at random, adding a pinch of shredded leaves or a small spoonful of spices each time. A teacup on a fancy saucer is deposited on the counter halfway through her performance, a silver tea-strainer placed atop it soon after.
"Aaaaaand brewing for three, two, one and there!"

The teapot's contents are poured into the cup, swirling through the strainer with a curiously purple hue.
"I'll juuuuust call Bernard to see you to the terrace and assist you with your literature selection... Bernard! One Literature Lover's Special for the terrace!"
The lady pushes the teacup towards Celiria as an older man in a burgundy uniform rounds the corner from behind the counter.
"Doooo drink up, and we'll have your order processed in a jiffy!"
kitsune106 wrote: Celria speaks up. "make sure there are no salmon sandwhiches, please." she states and giggles. "And this smells nice." she does drink her tea, trying to not just gulp it all down. "And thank you." Celiria is grinning a little as she likes the enthusiasm.
Aeromage wrote: "Right you aaaaaaaare!" The lady vanishes through a door behind the counter.

Celiria drinks the tea! It tastes... pleasant, but strange. She's fairly sure she just got hit by a buff of some description. At the same time, she abruptly loses a feeling of being watched she wasn't even aware she had.

"If you would follow me, madam." The man introduced as Bernard walks to the side of the staircase and opens a recessed door, revealing another flight of stairs down to somewhere bright.

Aeromage wrote: Bernard leads Celiria through a doorway at the bottom of the stairs to a stone-paved terrace hanging off the side of the city's layer. Tall, fragrantly-scented flower bushes grow against the layer's side, hiding the stonework from view, and provide a barrier to the terrace's wall-adjacent edges to screen whatever the edge of the layer might contain from view. The side of the terrace opposite the wall, however, is bordered only by an ornate stone barrier twined with trailing, flowering vines, affording a spectacular view of the chasm, with its greenery-flecked sides, cascading waterfalls and deep plunge into darkness. The morning sun brightly illuminates the upper parts of the western cliffs, making the greens more vivid and causing the falls to sparkle in the light.

A few stone tables with comfortable, cushioned chairs are set at intervals before the barrier, screened off by trellises adorned with honeysuckle and clematis. Bernard, however, leads Celiria past them and towards a door half-hidden behind a bush.
"Before you sit, madam, we shall see to your choice of literature. The Literature Lover's Special, of course, has its price included as part of the service. If you would."
He produces a heavy ring of iron keys and unlocks the door with a loud clunk. Celiria notices, as he does so, the unusual designs carved into the door's stone frame. If one was to squint, and not consider them to be normal engravings worn away by time and weather, they might look vaguely similar to some of the patterns and sigils she knows from her studies of Spirit Magic.
The door swings open and into a cool, dark stone passageway. It rounds a corner a short distance ahead, the warm glow of lamplight spilling out from beyond. Bernard gestures for Celiria to go ahead.
kitsune106 wrote: Celiria Will nod.

"But of course."
She starts down the corridor.
Aeromage wrote: The corridor is cool and slightly musty, but notably dry, rather than the dampness that is usually associated with old cellars. Celiria thinks she can smell old books along with old stonework and dust.
Around the corner, the passage opens up into a small room, bordered on one side by a solidly-reinforced metal-banded stone counter, an exceptionally strong-looking set of bars forming a grille separating it from the larger room beyond.
Behind the counter, bathed in a golden glow from a large number of floating lanterns, are books. Shelves upon shelves of books, all tightly packed together. Bookcases run perpendicular from the dividing security desk, with gaps barely wide enough for an average person to squeeze themselves into separating them. A metal spiral staircase, again so compact as to suggest a significant level of discomfort for any potential users, runs up to a second half-floor, every wall and surface packed with yet more books.

Something wearing an oddly-shaped hat with a sheet of fabric dangling from it covered in symbols pops up from behind the counter.
"Aha!"
It takes Celiria a moment to realise the thing is, in fact, a very short person wearing a very strange hat with a very odd veil obscuring its face. The voice is somewhat hoarse, its gender unidentifiable.
"Aha, aha! Another literature lover, I take it?" The person bobs up and down, nearly vanishing under the counter once more as it does so. "One moment... aha!"
An eerie squeaking sound precedes the figure slowly rotating on the spot, gently rising upwards and eventually coming to a stop considerably higher up. This doesn't help Celiria's assessment of the person's gender in the slightest, as they appear to be wearing a shapeless robe of some sort, or perhaps an oversized poncho.
"Aha, there we go. Now! I assume you have a book in mind if you came to all the trouble to end up down here. Or perhaps you were just curious about older works that have tragically been denied the general public by those in charge? I have quite the list of recommended works depending on your particular fancy."
kitsune106 wrote: Celiria nods.
"Yes, its The Dreamers of Iactura."
She explains, looking at them.
"I must admit, I am impressed here. You have a good system."
Aeromage wrote: "Aha! The Dreamers of Iactura... yes, yes, I think I've heard of that one. Bear with me while I check." The squeaking starts up again as the figure slowly rotates the other way, gently sinking below the counter's surface once more.
"Aha, yes! Rather an obscure bit of fiction, wasn't it?"
Rustling, rattling noises issue from the room beyond, the voice issuing from somewhere behind the bookshelves.
"...yes, yes, if I recall, it was banned for a variety of reasons... aha! Yes, I believe it was thought to advocate seeking out spirits to bring back lost loved ones. And venturing into the Spirit World. And containing a rather detailed ritual for opening a gate to the Spirit World. And, aha, yes, also opening a gate straight to the Fading Province, if my memory serves. Which it usually does."
Rattling and thumping issues from the upper half-floor, despite Celiria not having seen the staircase being used.
"I can't vouch for the accuracy of those methods, mind, or even recommend it. Wouldn't catch me trying to get into the Spirit World. Far too dangerous for my liking. And the Fading Province! I hear things that go there never come back. Rather stuck out as oddly specific passages in a book that was otherwise written in a particularly... meandering fashion, however. Aha, come to think of it, there were quite a few parts like that in there. Can't say it made my particular literary shortlist, although I appreciated the way it evoked snatches of a half-remembered dream. I'm certain it was a metaphor for something, but I honestly couldn't say what. Aha, but I'm tiptoeing perilously close to spoiling things. I can't be having... aha!"

More rustling and the return of the eerie squeaking heralds the figure's slowly-rotating resurfacing from beneath the counter. A thick, old book with a faded purple cover, once-gilded edges worn away in parts and faint patterns visible on the page's edges is deposited on the counter behind the bars.

"Looks like we had it in after all. Didn't even know we had a copy around! Like I said, it's a rather obscure bit of fiction." A gloved hand pats the book's worn cover. "Now, there's just the matter of payment. I'm sure if you knew what you were coming here for, you know something about the price tag. For this, I would say... worn condition, but an antique, banned work, fiction but potentially dangerous contents... one hundred and twenty million."
kitsune106 wrote: Celirra pulls out her promissory notebook and with one hand writes out the amount.

120,000,000 gold to be paid to them.

"I can add a tip. I know it can't be easy and well, I do appreciate the effort here. "
Aeromage wrote: "Aha! No need, no need. Everything's included in the price! Including the high tea. It adds an air of refinement to the proceedings, I gather. Of course, I'm not much of one for tea myself, but I can certainly appreciate the effort. And the scones, of course. Freshly baked! I'd say they'd give certain other bakers in the city a good run for their money."

Celiria passes the promissory note through the bars, receiving the book through a slot in them in return.

Her Promissory Account Funds are now 279,992,000 Gold.

Celiria gets:

'The Dreamers of Iactura'- (Item, Antiquity, Dream, 100,000,000 Gold)

"I wouldn't go flashing that around in public. You can't tell who's looking out for what nowadays, I find. And it would be a tragic shame for more literary works deemed unsuited to the eyes of the general populace to go missing, yes indeed."
kitsune106 wrote: She nods. "I understand."

She slips it under her armor.
"I think I will be heading back home, quietly. I get the feeling best to read in a safe place."
Aeromage wrote: "Aha, I understand." The short figure waves a gloved hand at Celiria. "I'd recommend asking for the tea to take away, then. It'd be a pity to waste it. Enjoy your book!"

I'm upping the Gold value on that. It's currently slightly below the line for its power. Also removing the clause about providing a bonus to MP since that's covered by 'additional' and adding parenthesis to clarify what stuff is 'additional'.
